Except that year-after-year his recruiting is better and better. That's because he's had time to develop relationships. With a new coach, all that goes away.

I disagree to a certain extent - I don't think his recruiting is getting better and I don't know why we couldn't hire a guy who can come in with some existing relationships.

We have a very vocal minority that wants Mac fired. Exactly like Iowa did with Alfraud. Mac supposedly has inroads in recruiting now and bringing in better players every year it seems. He's already shown he can find some great Big 12 talent (with some big misses, and keeping them is another matter). I'd take a dozen Wes Eik's for every Wes Johnson/CB he brings in here.

I would absolutely not take any Wes Eik's over anybody. He wasn't good enough for the big 12 and didn't want to do what it takes to make himself ready for this level. And I would argue that we're pushing 50/50 that want Mac gone, not a very vocal minority. And again, I don't think we're recruiting any better than we have in the past, I would argue that his first recruiting class was his best, and nothing on paper indicates anything he is doing is better than what we've already done.

Why is the stat more valid without Colorado? And how is rebounding margin "nonsense"?

You say we get killed on the boards, but then you want to change the stats that disprove that to remove the game where we absolutely destroyed the other team on the boards. How does that make any sense at all?

Oh, and removing Colorado from the rebounding stats, we are getting out rebounded by 1.8 boards a game in the other 13 Big 12 games, which is NOT getting "killed on the boards" by any means.

It's a difference THREE rebounds in the margin differential. That is a lot of rebounds in a game.

How many offensive rebounds do we give up per game during conference season?

In fairness, though, the rebounding has gotten better the last part of the confernce season. It corresponded with having to play Ham more. I guess that boxing out (sometimes), and fundamentals (sometimes) really do work. That is good to see.

I'll get laughed out of the gym for this, but I think next year we see a different, better team. I think GAMC got scared by the whole WJ thing, and got soft. Then when CB came back, he was given free reign to do whatever. I love CB, great kid and proud to call him a Cyclone. But he regressed this year, and was not held accountable. I think some other guys, like DG, feel like they have to defer to him. Next year, without him, I think GMAC goes back to his old style, kicks some ***, holds everyone accountable. CC takes control of the team, Phillips brings some attitude, and DG and SC become the very good role players they should be. Ham flourishes inside with a couple guards who open things up. Booze provides energy, JVB hits some 3's.

You heard it hear first.

This is certainly my hope.

I think the key is to having an identity as a team, and the whole team buying into it. I love Brackins and I think he's a great player, but it seems to me the team identity for the last 2 years has been "Brackin's team". And he's not an assertive (I think that's the word I want) player to do that.

My "solution" for the team next year is that they buy into being a great defensive team, and win low scoring ugly games if necessary, but pride themselves on great defense. It probably won't happen, but I'd love it if it did.

It's certainly a difference, but not the difference between breaking even and "getting killed".

We are averaging 13.2 ORs per game and giving up 12 in conference play. We've had double digit ORs in every game since Bradley.

without the CU games (since that seems to be important to you) we break dead even for the conference season on ORs, and getting and giving up 13 ORs per game.

I'll never laugh at somebody for being hopeful. Just as Andy told Red, "hope is a good thing, and no good thing ever dies". I'll never laugh at somebody for predicting good things, that's fine and we all want good things to happen for our teams. We may disagree but if I ever come off as making fun of somebody call me out on it.

I think we'll be terrible next year if Mac is back or not. We're counting on basically Colvin improving a ton and MCC's backcourt being better than ours next season. Possible, but I don't find a whole lot of hope in that.

you were right!! :biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh::biglaugh:

there is no logical reason why next years team will be any better then this years team. how often does a team lose its two best players, then comes back the next year without really replacing said players and is better? I think we can expect the same next year, around .500 record in the bottom 3 of the big twelve. that's called mac ball!! your kool-ade and optimism will only lead to you being even more disappointed when we see this year x2 next season.

In my opinion, Coach McDermott’s job is safe. After the season Jamie Pollard will sit down with Coach McDermott and the two will look at ways to improve the program. Ticket sales will suffer slightly next year. Crowds will be slightly smaller but resilient. Winning is a cure-all. I look for our team to make the NIT in 2010-2011 and the NCAA Tournament in 2011-2012. This is a better result than if we brought in a new coach. Coach McDermott is a good coach and an even better person. He is extremely articulate and intelligent. He is well respected by his peers around the country. He runs a clean, respectable program. Energy should be focused on improving the program; not firing the coach.

Let's not hang our hat on the results of that little poll up there! We're talking 130 votes TOTAL, I repeat, TOTAL. That's hardly any representation of the Cyclone fanbase, which must number in the hundreds of thousands. There are just a few Cyclone fans on here venting their frustrations. That's all. A very, very small inconsequential minority.

Who said I was basing my assumptions on the poll? Look at the crowds and listen to what people you know are saying, on and off this board.

Stability issues are created through coaching turnover; not player turnover.

I don't agree. There is nothing stable about a program that is going to have 4 losing seasons in 4 years and has as many players leave the program as ISU has. Focusing on patching leaks by consistently recruiting JUCO players that come and go so quickly is not building stability either. Long term success isn't built on patching leaks... it's built on a solid foundation which after 4 years under GMAC we still do not have. The only consistency that we have had under GMAC is consistency in losing games. That is just the fact of the matter. There isn't really any way to sugarcoat what is going on right now with the program.

You honestly think that it is just a small number of people on the internet that want Greg fired?

This type of comparison is completely off-base unless you also take out the Colorado stats from the other 10 conference teams. If you do that, it very likely comes back to the point that rebounds are very equal or at worse maybe one per half.

I do not think that is entirely accurate. We are counting on MCC's backcourt making our existing backcourt better. Would a Mike Taylor make our backcourt better? Would Mike Taylor's JuCo teammate Stefhon Hannah make our backcourt better?
Even without the additions, this should be McD's best backcourt. The additions may take that position to finally a winning Big 12 level.

Which is built by not having coaching turnover. Your post really isn't disagreeing with my post. You just don't want GMac as ISU's coach anymore which is fine.

See this is where I am confused. What exactly IS the course?

The course is much like the roads of Chile at this point.

He will have an unbearbable task ahead now.

He has about a 3% chance of winning at KSU, about a 12% chance of beating Texas amnd a 10% chance of beating Okie State. Okie state is a game behind Texas and plays Nebby at home while Texas has to play on the road at Baylor.

That means 14-18 fallout starting next Thursday. Will he go or will he stay time.

IMO, doesn't really matter what happens the rest of the season. Staying is really the only option if we want to win.

One problem McD is he dinks around nonconference season gradually breaking in newbies. Next year, he does not have time to dink. He must get his team in gear immediately. If it is a MCC backcourt, he needs to play them heavy from the start. We cannot afford any more crap UNI and NW games.
