I think Leath knows that Pollard will refuse to fire Rhoads no matter how bad we are, so he's letting everyone know that he's taking this into his own hands.

I'm not a huge Leath fan, but I like this move. Pollard has to hold his coaches his accountable. In a decade leading our AD, he has yet to do so, and his blind support of Rhoads gives little reason to believe he will ever do so.

This is exactly what I think as well. I don't think Pollard will choose Paul over his own job if we are bad again next year, and I'd like to keep Pollard because of his relationship with Hoiberg and all he's done for ISU even if I disagree with some of the things he's done.

But he obviously has no plans to hold Rhoads accountable.

Yup. I like a lot of what Pollard does, but he was never going to fire Gmac, and he isn't going to fire Rhoads. I don't know if he gets too close to these guys, or if he's too stubborn to acknowledge when something isn't working, but he's never given any indication that there's any sort of performance expectation for someone he hires.

Yeah well when you are the General and the enemy is trying to knock a hole in the wall of your Fort, you don't tell them, "come over here, where the opening is." Every Hawkeye coach, every Snyder recruit will be shown this quote. He had no business saying it and it shows no trust in Jamie either. Two strikes on Leath. Maybe we need a new President?

I don't think he threw CPR or Jamie under the bus. It sounded like he merely said that we need to do better and he is not sure about CPR's future but hopes he is successful. He also said that we need a turnaround next season. What is a turnaround? He didn't say we had to go 6-6... a turnaround may be minimally 4-7. That statement is open to interpretation! For all we know, he wants us back to a winning record, but he did not say how soon we have to get there either... turnaround... hmmmmmmmm.

Fred's pretty uncontroversial and tight lipped and I imagine only Fred really knows what he thinks of JP. I can't imagine he was too thrilled with the way JP was so tight with Leath and the way they handled the BuBu situation.

Leath sucks. Have not been impressed with him. #BringBackGeoffrey

Geoffrey retired because of age. Leath does suck. Baylor has a good President who came in 2010. They have won ever since. Fire Leath.

Leath can't recruit! Although enrollment is all-time highs? HUGE influx of new professors? But he's YET to bring in a DL that's worth a crap.

I smell what you're cookin Al. I think its a combo of both...JP is too tight with CPR and he is too stubborn to look at the situation with a realistic/unbiased point of view. Leath is just letting us know that he's looking at it with an unbiased point of view, very refreshing

Re: Everyone Knows the Score....

Leath is very unprofessional. He's proven it many times over already while at ISU. Not good leadership skills at all.

The university president should NEVER come out and make a statement like this. What good does it do anyone? Nothing.

I'm sure Rhoads knows the situation he's in right now. All this does is makes it nearly impossible for him to succeed next year. It basically is throwing Rhoads under the bus.

Leath is basically saying "yeah Paul Rhoads has one year to turn this thing around, and I'm announcing this to the world so that it will make it even that much tougher for him to go out and get any recruits."

I lost a TON of respect for Leath after the Bubu thing, and this is just another example that he's clueless IMO.
Reminds me of the wind down of afghan war.
