Minus his recruiting capabilities this is excellent. I read repeatedly on Twitter and Toledo message boards he is a terrible play caller. They can be running for 10 yards a carry but they stop running the ball and become pass happy. We had enough of that with Mangino.

What a disaster. This is all on campbell if true, this is a business, you don't let your dinky college buddies into the inner circle and recruitment process until they sign a freakin contract. I'm over Campbell bringing over his entire staff at this point--be a professional--this isn't a frat house.

^ freaking out based on rumors (upon rumors, upon rumors).

Let's let it all shake out and reserve our panic for official announcements. We don't even know, other than from reports, that Candle was going to be our next OC for sure. Or, that he will actually be going back to Toledo as head coach.

Respectfully disagree....MC has no idea what our AD is going to do regarding a coaching search. His job (MC) is to put together what he considers the best staff available....and if you're Candle, you're not going to turn down the opportunity to be a head coach...especially at a place you know, with your recruits and a TON of talent returning;

Not too mention, does anyone know for a fact that Candle had any interaction with recruits??

Very good point, actually. Even if he had, most of the guys contacted so far were guys that were offered by both schools, so this changes little.

Scoop is reliable, and Candle is no longer listed on the staff. Good luck to him at Toledo. Just a slight hick-up for CMC.

i don't think he was one of those announced yesterday. Probably because they knew this was possible.

I believe assistant coaches can leave their contracts basically at any time. Pretty sure they just have to repay moving expenses. Its not like they have buyouts for assistants. So even if he did sign a contract, he could leave whenever he wanted.

Repay moving expenses?

Hell, the guy has only been in town long enough to have a hotel room for 2 nights. LOL!

Untrue, completely removes the purpose of actually signing a contract, otherwise they would be like the rest of us--an at will employee.

How clueless are you? Its exactly Campbell's fault. This is a rookie/amateur mistake--exactly the type of thing hiring Campbell as somebody with previous head coaching experience was supposed to avoid.

If you're a recruit and you had been recruited by Rhoads staff who gets fired, and then this Candle clown calls you and starts recruiting you, and then a few days later you find out he is not at Iowa State but at Toledo--what would your perception of Iowa State be at that point. Would you think we have our ***** together and this is a place you'd want to attend?

Not to mention I wouldn't be surprised if some assistants that were going to come decide to stay now--just wait and see.

Things are moving so fast, I'm not sure the recruits really paid too much attention to who made the call from the new (now new ex) staff. This helped us more then hurt us. We were able to cover more ground with him helping make the calls and identifying the needs and prospects. With CPR's recruits nobody has a bond with them so it's not going to matter.

Sorry, I am correct. They have to give notice to the head coach before accepting it, but they can leave at any time if they do, without repercussion from the University.

Todd sturdy is still in Ames

He never signed a contract, his hope the entire time is that this would happen. Everyone needs to calm down. I agree it was strange he was in the war room, but there is a reason we didn't see a press release about him being Oc

Based on a quick glance of your posting history, you are the clueless one.

If Candle did indeed call recruits for Iowa State and he is going to be the new UT head coach I think it hurts him more than it hurts ISU, especially if he is going after any of those recruits at Toledo.

except I'm pretty sure most assistant coaching contracts generally include a provision where they can leave for a promotion

Damn, this plan worked out nicely. We infiltrated Candle as a double-agent deep mole and mission accomplished -- Campbell fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Now we have your list of recruits and Candle will make them all Toledo recruits, at least the ones we want. Damn, that Army career spent in the Special Operations community has finally paid off. O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!
