How clueless are you? Its exactly Campbell's fault. This is a rookie/amateur mistake--exactly the type of thing hiring Campbell as somebody with previous head coaching experience was supposed to avoid.

If you're a recruit and you had been recruited by Rhoads staff who gets fired, and then this Candle clown calls you and starts recruiting you, and then a few days later you find out he is not at Iowa State but at Toledo--what would your perception of Iowa State be at that point. Would you think we have our ***** together and this is a place you'd want to attend?

Not to mention I wouldn't be surprised if some assistants that were going to come decide to stay now--just wait and see.

What a disaster. This is all on campbell if true, this is a business, you don't let your dinky college buddies into the inner circle and recruitment process until they sign a freakin contract. I'm over Campbell bringing over his entire staff at this point--be a professional--this isn't a frat house.

I believe assistant coaches can leave their contracts basically at any time. Pretty sure they just have to repay moving expenses. Its not like they have buyouts for assistants. So even if he did sign a contract, he could leave whenever he wanted.

Respectfully disagree....MC has no idea what our AD is going to do regarding a coaching search. His job (MC) is to put together what he considers the best staff available....and if you're Candle, you're not going to turn down the opportunity to be a head coach...especially at a place you know, with your recruits and a TON of talent returning;

I don't think he was ever officially named as a coach was he, which is why I consider this extremely amateur. You don't let one of your buddies open the kimono in your new job until they sign on the line that is dotted.

If he did sign a contract and is breaking it, I'll apologize and that is a different story.

I do think the timing on this is very interesting. Of course everything is rumors, but there were reports that the Toledo AD said he was going to hire externally, and Candle was announced as coming here almost right away.

If the AD has said he was a candidate right away, I'd have to think he would have waited before coming here.

It makes it seem like the Toledo AD struck out on the desired external candidates - or something else changed - that made him come back to someone who he hadn't considered a candidate right away.


Bottom line - I'm very glad I'm not an athletic director!

i agree it is weird on toledos part. I wonder if they were getting ****** about the coaches leaving and recruits leaving and panicked and hired candle.

You need take step back and see the FULL picture. Ya it's not the best, but it's life. I'm so glad you aren't a coach. This stuff happens and I'm sure Matt knows about it. He had a change of heart. This is when Matt needs to find a good guy. So take step back and maybe just get off of this site for a few hours. You're acting like the worlds going to end...
