Hilton Coliseum set to have new video board this fall

Foot injury advice needed

We’re on day 2 at Disneyland because (perfect vaca sport where I can ride a rented scooter from right next to my bed to within 2 feet of every ride seat, necessary from my inability to walk or stand from the Parkinson’s). No walking anywhere on the vacation necessary. Trying to rough it out and then this happened…

Unfortunately getting off a ride this AM I heard and felt a loud, deep pop and an immediate (what felt and feels like) tearing of the main tendon that goes the length of the bottom of your foot. I’ve had a lot of troubles with plantar issues historically. So it’s extremely painful and can’t put any weight on it. I assume I either tore it partially or fully.

Would the pop and tear feel match up with some pretty bad damage? Going to try to see the dr when we get back in a week.

Something embarrassing you never told anyone

I have several stories, but I actually never get embarrassed because, who cares what people think. But I do remember one time I got extremely embarrassed...

When I was in my late teens I was working nights at a factory in Clarion. One night I woke up a bit late and had to hurry up and get ready, so I just threw on basketball shorts, with nothing underneath, and a t-shirt. The shorts were a little too big and a couple hours into my shift I was packing some stuff into a box and the shorts fell down to my ankles. Oops! I looked around to see if anyone saw, and sure enough, a group of older ladies saw everything. Yep, that was embarrassing and I never told anyone until now.

Your turn...

How Often Do You Sneeze?

In a typical day I sneeze an average of 1-3 times.

I was talking to a friend and he said most people don't sneeze even once per day.

I disagreed, saying people sneeze at least once in a typical day.

He has allergies, so he sneezes more than average. He claimed since I sneeze a couple times per day that I must have allergies, too.

I've say I don't have allergies, that's a normal amount of sneezing.

Has anyone use peel and stick wallpaper?

remodeling my upstairs and considering doing a mashup of 70's style with modern appliances, fixtures. there are some pretty cool pattern available these days but am worried about dropping $500+ on wallpaper for a few accent walls and having it look like crap/not sticking. A big concern I have is where window and door trim will meet the wallpaper. All of my window and door trim is nailed and caulked so there is a slight radius where trim meets wall. Hindsight I wish i would have put wallpaper on, then baseboard, door trim, window trim and left uncaulked.

what say you?

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) - Treating green ash to keep them alive.

Green ash are dying here in southern Minnesota due to infestion of EAB. I have three big, old green ash trees I'd like to keep alive. I've heard that injection with chemical that kills the borers/larvae is best treatment for large trees, and needs to be done every 2 years or so. Wondering if anyone out there has hired an arborist to treat green ash trees? Any tips/suggestions? Thx.

The Hometown Return

This started as a discussion between my wife and I today. For those that ended up leaving, do you look forward to returning to your home town?

My wife likes going back for the town festival every year and reminiscing with old friends and running into people she hasn’t seen in forever.

I have zero interest in seeing anyone that I don’t still talk to, zero interest in school reunions, etc. I legitimately do not give a **** how anyone is doing 20 years after high school graduation.

*** Cyclone Fanatic Sports Movie Tournament: Selection Show ***

Welcome to the Cyclone Fanatic Sports Movie Tournament Selection Show.

This bracket was developed by a committee of 6 posters, and was informed in part by many other posters who contributed to the "Sports movies nominations" thread.

Even with all the great input from everyone, the committee had a challenging time narrowing the field to just 64 sports movies. Well over 150+ movies were nominated and considered.

Selections and seedings are based less on each committee member's personal preferences/favorites, and more on the movie's overall popularity among the public, historical significance, and critical acclaim.

Because there were so many feature sports films to consider, the committee made the decision to not include sports documentaries in this tournament.

Tournament voting will begin starting tomorrow. Instead of having a separate thread and poll for every "game," each round will have a separate thread. Additional details about the process will be included with each round's thread.

And now, on the the bracket reveal...

2024 non-conference kickoff times announced

Iowa State's kickoff times for its three non-conference games to open the 2024 season have been announced.

I wrote about the first Black gold medalist in history for the Guardian. Has Jack Trice parallels.

I don't normally share my national stories, but I worked on this for a long time for The Guardian (US and UK edition) - There are some parallels with Jack Trice.

DeHart Hubbard became the first Black individual gold medalist in Olympic history when he won the long jump at the 1924 Paris Olympics. Hubbard was from Cincinnati and graduated one year ahead of Jack. He was banned from HS football after one game in his senior year, so his team simply quit the rest of the season. There was an injury.

I really think you will like this one. What do you think?
