Some control, but not like we are used to. Not that it's a bad thing as long as they aren't breaking too many things with updates.
Its a new thing for them, who knows, maybe with certain updates, it will allow for more granular control again.

I bought a new laptop last year with Windows 8.1. Apparently after a recent update, it completely screwed up my keyboard and mouse. When I'd fire up the laptop, I couldn't do a single thing and it would stay on my lock screen. Geek squad took care of the problem for the most part but I realized the next day that some buttons still didn't work. I took it back in and they said I'd have to pay for tech support which costs 200 bucks for the year because of how much the software update messed it up. They said it targeted my specific Toshiba model. So yeah, I hope 10 runs much smoother.Which, I don't know about others' experiences, but I've encountered multiple instances of Windows 8[.1] having update issues/failing updates. Hopefully 10 straightens that out some. I don't think it's anything I'm doing wrong, mainly because there isn't much to do "wrong" with an automated process.

So who is going "All In" when Windows 10 is released tomorrow? I have my copy reserved but I think I may wait a bit to actually install it until we see what the initial reactions are and what bugs might get exposed once the user base increases significantly over the next few weeks. This issue in particular is a bit concerning: http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2015/07/27/windows-10-automatic-update-security-problems/ especially since I run a NVidia graphics card. Hopefully there are some tweaks to Windows Update coming that will allow you to pick and choose what installs and when. I understand why they want to force updates through but you'd think that they could hold off on 3rd party hardware drivers and allow users to choose what to do with those themselves.
Laptop: as soon as they will let me.
Production Machine: as soon as SP1 is released or before 1 year of W10 release.

Why oh why? I'll be forced to upgrade, perhaps, given my track record to Windows 10 sometime around 2025. Still have XP on the desktop and it works fairly well. It is interesting that Microsoft has finally given up and forcing people to buy the new software and this is coming with very little fan fare.

I haven't had a problem with Windows since Vista, which is nearly 10 years ago. Windows 7, 8, and XP all have been stable for me. I didn't really like the UI of 8 but a few mods took care of that issue.
