Gotta admit. Being the lone vote against an 8th official hardly seems worthy of a witch hunt by the conference.

Some sort of personal vendetta? I don't buy it, but it could (has) happened. Does JP think they're out to get us because we potentially cut back their potential income or something?

Every fan base of every team that loses a game thinks the refs suck. It's "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" any more.

Not every school has a collection of apology letters from their conference for all of the calls that they have ****ed up that have influenced the outcome of games. I wouldn't expect a Kansas basketball fan to understand that though. :spinny:

Pollard needs to just start shutting up. If he pulls this crap with Hoiberg, I'm not going to be happy.

Why exactly? It needed to be said. The point needed to be made. I don't care if Pollard said that his vote to go to lunch at 11:00 rather than 12:00 was the reason why the officials are doing stuff.

The bias is there and I am glad that it is out in the open now.

No its not you *******. Honest to god.

At some point Kansas basketball will be screwed by someone and you guys will probably go all the way to the President with your outrage.

Until then, butt out of our business.

That's the thing. When the USC AD sees a bad call against his team, he comes all the way down to the field, because he can't BELIEVE there would be a bad call against USC.

If Kansas had the same block call go against them in a game ESPN would be up in arms and people would be talking about revamping basketball officiating. The result of the game would be protested and eventually changed to a KU win.

Instead we get a letter of apology and a "good luck next time"

When KU hires a new head-football coach (full-time, not interim), do you then change your name to threecoach? That would be how many head football coaches KU is paying at that point, correct?

Yeah they wont do that. It calls into question the integrity of the refs and that's not fair to them.

I don't care where they are from. Honestly it doesn't matter if they are from TX or South Carolina. The bias seems to go toward the team that's "supposed" to win, regardless of where that school is from.

I just think they should be held accountable for terrible effing calls. If the conference has to apologize to a school for a call that you made, you should be suspended without pay for at least one game.

This right here, if I screw up in my job their should and will be consequences, that's how the real world works, every call should be scrutinized and if its wrong then there are penalties. Everyone would not have had a problem if the replay showed that he crossed the plane of the goal line, but the fact there wasn't any good angles to show that then the play should have stood as called on the field that's how replay works.

They have plenty of apology letters. I am sure the Big 12 apologizes to the KU BBall coaches every time they lose a game in conference because they should have done more to help them out.

Still behind Jamie. His actions weren't popular with probably 50-60 percent of the fanbase, if not more, but he gave the other group a voice. The Texas apology was enough. The Kansas State apology was ridiculous. Both directly led to losses that could have been signature wins over ranked teams. For a program needing a jolt those wins would have been priceless.

The two blown calls Saturday in no way effected the outcome, we know Oklahoma State would have rolled Iowa State regardless. They're a good team. The mouthbreathers and Jay Bilas types don't understand that Saturday's eruption wasn't about Saturday's calls only but repeated incompetence that happened to go against one school too many times to stomach. How many apologies has Oklahoma State received? Kansas State? I applaud him.

I don't get this. It was a tie game and that switched all of the momentum.

Yep, we can't say we lost because of the call, but it would have been a tie game at halftime.

Also, I disagree with Johnnywhatever that 50-60% of the fans disagree with him. I've read very few that disagree with him.

I think Pollard has a case for saying what he did. But to tie it to ISU's vote wasn't the brightest move. Let the fact that we've been boned on several occasions speak for itself.

This is what ****** me off. Then look at what happened to the ISU defense in the 2nd half? That goal line stand would have fired them up coming out for the 2nd half but instead it demoralized them and as a result the defense just got absolutely rolled over in the 2nd half. To that point in the game the D was playing quite well. That momentum shift killed that.

I thought JP should have asked for the video replay that shows indisputable evidence of a TD. That should have been the full extent of his statement. Show me the replay and I'll pay the fine.

I wonder if that could've earned him another $25k, since it wouldn't have been through "proper channels".

In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a public reprimand of Iowa State University Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard for his comments following Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State. In addition, the Conference assessed a $25,000 fine for Pollard’s post-game remarks and put him on notice that any similar behavior will result in a more serious penalty.

“Mr. Pollard’s public statements called into question the integrity and competence of game officials and the Conference’s officiating program,†stated Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “To imply that games are called unfairly to negatively impact a program is irresponsible and completely baseless. Accordingly, the seriousness of this violation warrants a public reprimand and a financial penalty. We take pride in our officiating programs and will continue to strive for the highest possible standards and the fairest competition.â€

JAMIE POLLARD STATEMENT

“Although on Saturday I felt the need to defend our players and our institution, Dr. Leath and I recognize that our decision to have me do so publicly was in violation of the conference’s sportsmanship guidelines and we accept the Commissioner’s punishment. Furthermore, I apologize for implying that Iowa State University’s vote against the addition of an eighth official at a conference meeting in 2013 impacted game officiating. It was inappropriate for me to do so. We are committed to working with the Big 12 Conference in the appropriate manner moving forward.â€

Irresponsible? Baseless? I don't know what Iowa State games Bowlsby has been watching, but they are the same ones I've watched. Ever wonder why aTM, Colorado, Missouri and Nebraska are gone from the old Big 12? Do you think playing favorites had something to do with it?

Integrity? Competence? Let's just make certain the "screw-ups" and apologies that follow are fairly distributed.

Jamie, you still did the right thing.

don't say something if you think you'll have to apologize for it later. I don't like the apology. Stick to it or shut up. Either way, I don't see how this benefits us going forward. Now what if we get another bad call? Who can say something without losing their job????

He's was always going to have to aploogize for this. Always.

Who knows if it helps us in the future. It might just make them think a bit before they screw us over again.

And while I get mad at the normal bad calls that happen in every game, I'd be happy if they would just be consistent with the over the top bad calls.

Okay... If adding the 8th official was the only thing we voted against, and JP brought that up, well, that was just idiotic... Why wouldn't we want an extra official on the field, (it costs each team $2k per game or something). That was just cheap on our part, and then to bring it up as the reason we might be getting unfair penalties... C'mon JP.

This wasn't scripted, JP went from the gut, and screwed up with that comment. Criticize the call, fine. But to bring up the vote for an 8th official was just stupid...

Yeah, I don't care for JP's apology at all. What's he apologizing for? Either stand by what you believe or don't. Don't kiss up.
