My guess is the Big 12 told Pollard to make something up for the 9-1 vote to clear things up. Really don't think it was the 8th official Pollard was talking about

I think the "vote" was something along the lines of ISU bringing up referee integrity and holding them accountable. Everyone was too scared to back with us on it then we became the lone vote. The 8th official vote is BS.

I agree. The accusation was too big and calculated to be about an 8th official. This supersedes football. We have been hosed in basketball far too many times too. Has to be that pollard introduced a motion of review or accountability or something and other schools didn't go along. By putting all this put there some SEC loving investigative journalists (ESPN) will expose the hypocrisy of the big 12 and it will be a bigger joke than it is now. And when it folds, pollard will be able to fall back on this moment in time and explain why we are better off elsewhere and what this was really all about. Pollard is well respected around the league and surely he doesn't believe we are getting hosed on our voted about how many officials there should be.

I hope he pays that fine in pennies. Have them delivered direct to Bowlsby's office in 5 gallon buckets.

I would like Bowlsby to go on record about his Big 12 comments earlier about how cheating pays and then now how can he claim that cheating only happens in one way. That is Irresponsible. If cheating happens, then it probably happens in a lot more areas then one. Same logic applies to most things in life.

If your cheating in one class you are probably cheating or there is a chance at least you'd cheat in two.
If you have an affair there is a chance you could have another.
If life exists on one planet, there is a large probability that it does on another.
If coaches or boosters are buying players, then Id say there is at least a chance they are also buying replay officials. To say its isolated to one type of cheating is flipping stupid.

If a conference is paid based on the success of its most successful teams it stands to logic that money greedy business types are probably wanting, or have a strong interest in making sure the top stay at the top. Until you ISU prove you should be the ones at the top being favored then you will always be at the bottom. As of now that is a very hard hill to climb.

Again take that money to conference out of the equation. The top two in each move on to a playoff system.

In accordance with the Big 12 Conference Principles and Standards of Sportsmanship, the Conference has issued a public reprimand of Iowa State University Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard for his comments following Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State. In addition, the Conference assessed a $25,000 fine for Pollard’s post-game remarks and put him on notice that any similar behavior will result in a more serious penalty.

“Mr. Pollard’s public statements called into question the integrity and competence of game officials and the Conference’s officiating program,†stated Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “To imply that games are called unfairly to negatively impact a program is irresponsible and completely baseless. Accordingly, the seriousness of this violation warrants a public reprimand and a financial penalty. We take pride in our officiating programs and will continue to strive for the highest possible standards and the fairest competition.â€

JAMIE POLLARD STATEMENT

“Although on Saturday I felt the need to defend our players and our institution, Dr. Leath and I recognize that our decision to have me do so publicly was in violation of the conference’s sportsmanship guidelines and we accept the Commissioner’s punishment. Furthermore, I apologize for implying that Iowa State University’s vote against the addition of an eighth official at a conference meeting in 2013 impacted game officiating. It was inappropriate for me to do so. We are committed to working with the Big 12 Conference in the appropriate manner moving forward.â€

I think we should inundate the Big 12 with emails about their fine of Jamie and their continued arrogance about the performance of their officiating crews. I'd like to see them get over 10,000 such emails so they know EXACTLY where the Cyclone Nation stands about their decision and their performance on the filed and court. So, here are the email addresses:

Bob Bowlsby - [email protected]
Walt Anderson - [email protected]

I mean, what can we do? Iowa State on their own couldn't fund an independent review of the officiating without alienating the conference. If you could get a majority of the schools to agree to it then you would have a chance. Good luck with that though.

Hold up. Didn't Pollard say that he and Rhoads brought up and issue in his original press conference? He mentioned the vote but he specifically talked about bringing up and issue. To me, the 8th official is not bringing up an issue.

It's not necessarily a bias against ISU either. It is possibly a bias for the favorite and against the underdog. ISU is far too often the underdog. It just makes me think that the Big12 has crappy officials all together who let the identity of the teams playing affect their calls.

This is why I don't believe Jamie was implying some sort of silly conspiracy so many are laughing about. Clear to me he used the 8 ref rule thing to point clearly at who he thinks is to blame for the problems we face--Walt and his seriously horrible team of incompetents. It's downright shocking how bad they are, and it has hurt us. Unfortunately we just aren't good enough to beat very good teams and the refs. Don't believe Jamie would have ever said boo on this subject if we hadn't been so heavily penalized for that incompetence time and time again. It may have been mentioned already, but I was shocked that it was only $25K. Tells me everything I need to know about the shaky ground the b12 is on here. They clearly said, nothing to see here, move on. And jamie provided his coded response; going forward he will work within the system. Bowlsby and Pollard understand each other completely. Neither could give a rip if the rest of us understand. Probably prefer we don't.

JP sent a warning shot to the league that we are gonna start getting the games called pretty square from here on out, football and basketball. They responded by making the fine pretty reasonable. JP's accusation was nearly nuclear level for an AD to make. My best guess is that if things don't clear up, JP will probably reveal what the real vote was. I don't for a second believe that he would "go there" especially with apparently Leath's blessing, about something so benign. My word people, it is long distance long game JP we are talking about. Read between the lines. If ISU gets blatantly hosed again, look for the true story to leak, if it hasn't by then.

I love ISU. I think JP has become a true Cyclone and wants to see ISU succeed. Oh, and I absolutely hate the Big12. I would honestly rather have the KC mafia in charge of the conference.

I have to agree, I don't think it's the 8 ref thing, and I'm not even a conspiracy person.

1. Yes, and judging by the calls there is every reason to question at least the competence of the conferences officiating program.

2. JP never implied that calls are made unfairly to negatively impact the program. He said the result of the horrid calls RESULTED in a negative impact to our program.

And when it happens CONSISTENTLY and appears blatant, the conference should take additional steps to ensure perception is changed so that the integrity of the conference leadership and the officiating aren't in question.

The league clearly showed whose side their on(the refs and Walt Anderson) With it being a southern good old boys club, what did you expect? Those in power stay in power.
