What if nothing is linear in sportsball?

And what are we referring to when we say 'worried'? What's going to happen if ISU makes the tournament and doesn't win it?
Hopefully we don't see similar performance like we had against Pitt.

Wait are we really complaining about officials in a game we won, were called for 7 less fouls and shot 10 more free throws? We aren't exactly a soft defensive team either. We initiate alot of contact as well.

I thought the game was very, very officiated given how hard our respective teams can be to officiate.
I think it was more a response to Kelvin blaming the loss on the officiating. I don't think responding that there were just as many or more missed foul calls on UH is out of line in that context.

If you aren't worried, cool. The offense has been an issue and continues to have some gaps. Look no further then A&M when we were up 20 or Pitt in the tourney last year. It's a good thing Houston had 12 TO's because ISU struggled to put the ball in the hoop for 7+min stretch. ISU has to find a way to produce extra baskets and have some consistency from the bench. As I mentioned, great win but I have some concern again with the O.

These concerns make zero sense when there's so little continuity in the roster.

Minutes against Pitt last season...

38 = Holmes
37 = Kalscheur
35 = Lipsey
26 = King
16 = R. Jones
14 = Kunc
13 = Ward
11 = Watson
10 = Osunniyi

= 50.5% returning

The only guy remaining who logged minutes in the first TJ NCAA tournament is Big Rob.

This is practically a new team -- especially a new back court with Gilbert, Jiggy Curt, Pav, and Milan.

Skewed heavily cause of ****** teams that we beat up on. Big12 is a meat grinder and there isn't many teams that we are going to score 70+ points on.

This team is completely different than last year. The holdovers are all drastically better scorers than they were last year, and Gilbert and MM are more offensively talented than anyone Otz has had on a roster. Gabe and Holmes were good players, but they both were susceptible to some inefficient games, and if that happened at the same time, that team just didn't have a shot offensively.

And this team is very different than the team that played A&M and VT. The return of Ward doesn't seem like much on the offensive end, but it certainly helps.

And I'm not sure how you think Houston magically had all those turnovers. Not sure if you were at the game, but I took advantage of the weather and got some great seats. Gilbert and Lipsey particularly were unreal defensively and had Shead and Crier uncomfortable all game. That was an elite defensive team ISU faced last night. Tamin, Gilbert, C. Jones and Pavs more than held their own.

50% of the minutes coming back from a tourney game is a lot of minutes in today's college game.

Normally I would agree with this but that is Houston's game and they have greater depth in the front line to execute it if the whistles come fast and furious for both teams.
They actually don't have great depth. They really only go 7 deep and Tugler is the only big they use off the bench and he fouls a ton.

Our guys are good about using their bodies and less hands, but make no mistake, our guys are constantly initiating contact with their bodies out on those double teams and as a way to slow a guy so they can get through screens and recover. But Houston is the game where we'd want it closely called because they foul a ton.

But I do agree in a game last night some early tone-setting fouls should've been called. It was a bit over the top with the physical play, and restricting motion. There were a few really bad misses on fouls though, most memorable was Watson getting pushed OB after an offensive rebound.

I think it's easy to say call a foul a foul, but what early game was it when the game was called tightly and the game had tons of fouls and drug on forever? Everybody just complained about how bad it was. These weren't made up fouls.

Overall this is a problem in CBB that needs everybody on board to fix. You go into the season letting every team, every crew know that the initiating contact and restricting movement is going to get called closely. But it's going to take an offseason of emphasis at least to clean it up.
I forgot about that Watson one. The other one I remember was a ridiculous moving screen that Houston set at the top of the key

Overall it was pretty well officiated I agree. There were a few pretty bad misses but it's not that big of deal

I will say if I’m a coach and I want to have my team as hungry as possible I would say the same thing. There’s no burden of truth or requirement to congratulate. Those things can work to motivate as well, but the coach is ALWAYS talking to his own team first.

Lipsey had his second straight game of only 1 steal - the only two of the season - but he still leads the country in Defensive Efficiency and is #3 in Steal Rate.

I wish there was a place that tracked "forced turnovers" because Lipsey forces a ton, whether it's balls going out of bounds, travels, taking charges, etc. Him being "off" and in foul trouble was the biggest factor in the OU loss

With a very different roster than that game almost a year ago in a different season? How are they connected?

Yes I would guess we as fans wouldn't want to see the team have their worst collective performance of the season.

It's absolutely fine to doubt our offensive abilities, but comparing it to last year it is definitely better. BRE24>BRE23, Mom>Grill, Tamin24>Tamin23, Tre24<=23, Gilbert = Gabe. I don't know that our defense is as good, but they sure were as good last night. And I was so impressed with Houston. So much better than a lot of KU teams I've seen with that kind of ranking. Most of the time you feel they get the accolades because of their jersey and their coach/refs. This Houston team is full of studs.

I believe our coaching staff deserves all the credit for our team's success over their 3 years. They have proven that they know more about the game and our team than EVERY poster here. Yes there are some holes, and some tendencies, but I believe they work on those issues everyday and will do their best to get better as they've proven to do. This year we actually have some depth to avoid the rundown our past teams have had. And we match up athletically so much better now than before. But we are still "underdogs" athletically to the top tier teams, but are closing the gap.

So while we can discuss our feelings about this team know that we only know what we see from afar and that we have great kids and coaches.

Go Cyclones!

Dumb fans think the EXPECTATION is to never have a bad game or lose a game. Thats the GOAL, not the expectation.
