The one in Marshalltown I assume? It is the worst. The service and food. I've tried to give them a chance 2 or 3 times and every time the service is horrible and the food is worse. One time I just ordered nachos thinking they couldn't possibly **** that up... but they did. I don't know anyone that likes that place and have no idea how it's still open.
Agreed. My wife and I tried that place 2 times our choice and a 3rd time because someone else picked. Every time it was terrible service. I wouldn't have gone back after the second time if it wasn't for our friends. I won't be going back a fourth time.

The Mexican place by Kmart is the same. Won't go back again because of the terrible service. We went in on 2 separate occasions and were ignored by the wait staff after being seated for over 15 minutes one time and 10 minutes the other. We got up and left.

That's odd. We go to that place by Kmart a lot mostly because the service is good/fast. Food isn't great. If you want great/authentic Mexican go to the back of the grocery store on Main Street.

I chuckle when I see/hear of people refusing to patronize certain establishments because of their "politics." If those folks were consistent, they would likely need to stop patronizing many of their own favorite stores and restaurants, they just don't realize it.

I know that if I refused to do business with any entity I disagreed with politically I'd probably be living in a cabin in the remote woods and writing manifestos, and I'd think many others would be doing the same also.

I'm personally okay with doing business with people of differing political views. I mean, it'd be a pretty small group of businesses you could patronize otherwise. I'm not okay with businesses or actors or what-have-you's that are in your face about it. And that cuts both ways.

We are big time cooks and have ordered for YEARS from Penzey's spices. I'm not a huge Trump fan, but the "CEO" sent out dozens and dozens of politically charged emails just ragging on Trump and Trump supporters. Some of it was fine, some of it was just berating people. It was hard for me to do because I like their products, but I won't shop there anymore, both in store and online. Which is sad, because our local store is probably franchised out to local folks.

BUT . . . I don't do Chipotle because I don't appreciate their marketing campaigns about agriculture. I don't really like Jethro's food (any of the 3 or 4 I've been to). I also don't particularly care for Panera's food, but I'll go from time to time.

For me, its Steak N Shake in the Iowa City area. I don't understand why people like that place. The service is terrible. We went there once about 5 years ago and the wait staff dropped three trays of food at different times. Drinks splattered on us and my wife's shoes were soaked. Not even an apology. On top of that, we waited an hour for them to bring us our food which was overpriced and not even that good.
They changed management/ownership this year. They were closed for about a month or so and reopened about a month ago. Stopped Saturday and the service was great as was the food.

I wrote this in another one of these threads.

Texas Roadhouse- actually not bad "cheap" food.

Now to the rest-

****-kicking music at a million decibels (big drawback).

Scores of totally out of control rugrats (big drawback).

Who thinks someone would enjoy this?

White Castle: It is disgusting
Applebees and Perkins: Overpriced and not that good.

Honestly, if I am going for fast food it is Wendy's, Chipotle, or Jimmy Johns and if I am going out for a nice meal I am not going to a chain like Applebees or Chilis etc. I would much rather eat at a local place (support a small business plus the food is usually much better).

Best drive thru service I think I ever had was on Wednesday at Chik-fil-a in Ames right around noon. The staff was putting my two orders along with two large drinks to the window as I just got around the corner. Drive thru was two deep in each lane when I ordered.

#1- Mcdonalds- I havent eaten there in 20 years and refuse to as long as I live.

#2 Subway-I wont even mention their spokesman was convicted of child porn, what really gets me is the see-through meat portions, the pathetic vegetables, and the .25 cents worth of bread that they charge you $6 for since thats basically the only ingredient in the sandwich

#3 Jethros- Food has gone downhill considerably since the original location opened by Drake. This is a prime example of a place expanding too much for its own good.

#4 Fuzzy Tacos-blast away if you want, but I heard everyone raving about this place, I tried it, the chips were soaked in grease, the tacos were extremely plain and bland tasting, not to mention I would have had to eat 10 of them to get in enough food to satisfy me

Now for some of my favorites-

Johnys Italian Steakhouse
Thai Flavors
Christophers
Big Tomato Pizza
Hu-Hot

When I lived outside of Houston, my brother lived with me for a summer while he interned at a certain government agency. His (now) wife came to visit me and my (now) wife. We decided to go to a Tex-Mex place that was pretty good - not one of the best, but still pretty decent. When we were being served our food, the server dropped a steaming-hot plate of refried beans, which barely missed my sister-in-law. Could have been really, really bad.

What did we get for that? A giggle from the waitress and a quiet "I'm sorry" from her. Then we got to clean it up ourselves and didn't get the meal comp'd.

Never went back, even when somebody else was paying.

Don't tell me it was Pappasito's, god I love that place! I'd kill for some fajitas with the garlic butter sauce right now. Those tortillas!

There's no way I can speak poorly of a Pappas family restaurant. That was a requirement when my wife made us move - there had to be some Pappas nearby. We succeeded with Pappadeaux just down the road from us.
