It should be noted that we came in with a ton of fresh faces for the last two seasons. I know Fred can't work miracles every year, but I wouldn't put money against him walking on water.

Exactly...he's going to get the talent that wants to play for him every year. I don't see him having a rebuilding year anytime in the near future. Some teams will be better than others but they should be in the tourney year in and year out.

I was always under the impression that Bubu was given a scholly for just that one season only because it was available. I don't remember Fred or anyone else on the staff saying that Bubu was promised one beyond that one year?

I'm thinking this is what will happen. I hope so anyway. Bubu goes back to being a walk on again.

It's a state school; faculty's family members don't go for free.

I know I'm late in on this and it's just nitpicking, but Iowa State's tuition waiver policies have nothing to do with being a public institution, but rather an Iowa Regents institution. Either way, you're right, there are no family tuition benefits for Iowa State faculty or staff.

Kane is a great fit for this team. A good ball handler who can score at the bucket means his lack of outside shooting isn't really a red flag. He will create opportunities for shooters.

For which player did staff ever say that the scholarship would be for more than one year.

A scholarship for an unrecruited walk on because you have one left over does not imply the same thing as a scholarship for a recruited player IMO. Who knows though.

Unfortunately this will not happen clonedude. Fred is smart enough to not take away Bubu's scholarship in 2013-2014. Keep in mind, Bubu could have graduated in May( class of 2013 and Finances Major like me) and leave ISU. I guess if he had decided to postpone his graduation to play one more year the coaching staff must have promised him a scholarship. Otherwise it doesn't make sense to pay one extra year of tuition when one needs only 3 credits to graduate.

If Fred can do what he did with Diante in one year, we will go real far. Kane is even further ahead already than what Diante was too before his senior year.

Highly doubt Bubu will be a walk-on next year. would bet it's a JUCO coming in.

All the speculation I'm saying.

I don't know when CW interviewed Fred about the hiring of Doc Sadler, but in that interview Fred commented that we will have 4 JUCO's on the team this year. Amardi, Edozie, Hogue, and Bluford would be those 4, correct? If so, at least Fred was expecting them to be here when CW interviewed him.

If all 4 JUCO's make it here, as Fred says, AND Bubu is still on scholarship, then it is a mystery. I hate to guess, but it makes you wonder if Naz Long will be back? My best guess is that Bubu is back on walk on status though.

Kane looks almost like another Naz Long player though IMO. A guy that can play both the 1 and 2. So if someone is indeed leaving, and it's not one of the incoming JUCO's, Naz Long makes sense I guess. I hope not. I'd like to keep everyone and have Bubu be a walk on again preferably.

Can't bubu take 1 class if he has already graduated and still play? I remember Matt Leinart took 1 dance class or something his final season at USC since he had already graduated.

While I'd never say Niang is a better player than Smart, I'd argue he is every bit as valuable as Smart because of his high basketball IQ, unselfishness, and all around ability in the clutch. Call me crazy and I know Smart will be a lottery pick, but I wouldn't trade Niang for Smart.

Agree. Smart is higher-impact individually, right now, but he'll be gone after next season. Niang is at least a 3-year player. Could be a 4-year, but if he does leave early, that's not bad, either — that might be more likely after a couple of stellar seasons as a team.

Yeah, but the dance class did not help him on the field that year.
