Anyone have a link to some Kane video? All I could find on youtube was some 10 sec videos shot with a broken cellphone of a TV.

Marcus Smart might have something to say about that.

While I'd never say Niang is a better player than Smart, I'd argue he is every bit as valuable as Smart because of his high basketball IQ, unselfishness, and all around ability in the clutch. Call me crazy and I know Smart will be a lottery pick, but I wouldn't trade Niang for Smart.

Do Bubu's parents still work for the University? Can he go off scholarship and still go to school for free?

When you ignore NBA upside and consider Fred's system thrives when every player can hit threes (pretty rare for a freshman big man to be able to shoot and finish like Niang did), it's not completely crazy viewed just in ISU's particular case. Might be interesting to revisit at the end of the year.

Plus if we had Smart on our team we'd have the biggest flopper in the Big 12 and who wants that.

Man you'd think people would actually know who is on the team. I can't remember how many times we've said Ellerman, Law, and Fowler were walk-ons. Although I didn't hear about Law leaving the team.

If it makes you feel any better I didn't know that either

man, I really hope we're picked 8th a third straight season because barring some catastrophic injuries there's absolutely no way we finish lower than fifth, really I'd be quite surpised if we're any lower than 4th. Returning the league's most dominant rebounder, returning the league's best sophomore, the nation's most dominant mascot, adding a proven point/combo guard, and bringing in one of the Big 12's best recruiting class...plus Hilton is always Hilton. PUMPED.

I'd trade Niang for Smart any day of the week.

And you'd have Smart for one more year and Niang for at least 2 or 3. Yes Smart has more raw ability and Niang will never be the NBA player Smart will be, but as a college player in our system, I'd still take Niang.

we have 15 on the cyclones.com roster. 15 players is max, 13 scholly.

Check again.

One over on schollys. Did you see "Scholarship Breakdown" not "roster breakdown" ?

KCLMC <- stealing that cause I love it

I don't need to check again. I have faith Fred can count to at least 20 and understands how NCAA scholarship rules work. I'll let him deal with it and be ready to cheer on the squad (how ever it shakes out) in this upcoming season.

Haven't looked, but don't think you're accurate.

Regardless, I highly doubt Fred is freaking out today, scrambling around looking for a scholarship for Kane, so I don't think any of us should either.

You have have 13 scholarship players. Only 15 guys can dress for games. You can have as many players on the team though. Kentucky had 20 guys on the team during one of Billy G's years. Only 15 dressed and only 15 travel to away games.

Probably not as good in the NBA as Smart, no. But I could see Niang being a terrific role player in the NBA for at least 10 years. Hell, Ryan Bowen lasted that long.

I guess I was just thinking for this year but I agree I would take 2-3 years of Niang over one from Smart.
