What was the first ISU football game you attended?

Mine was 1992 against Ohio. It rained non-stop but we had no trouble putting away the Bobcats. Ahh, the bad old days...Jim Walden, astroturf, yellow helmets, and celebrating if we got a tie.

mine was vs iowa in 99. we won 17-10. at the time i rarely even watched football. i was even (gasp) an iowa fan (simply because all of my friends were hawks and i had no allegiance via parents/family). i sat in the south endzone right in the middle. caught an extra point that was kicked into the stands. that was very cool as a high schooler (however i did not get to keep the ball).

then i attended iowa state the following year and the rest is history. i hate the hawks now.

My first game I attended was when I was 9 years old in 1995. It was for a 4-H trip and 4-H kids from all over the state were at the game. I don't remember who we played in the game but I remember that it was a loss. We got to tour the vet med facility before the game and I saw a cow with a rumen access (hole) in it's ribs which was pretty cool.

That was the last game I attended until I enrolled as a freshman in 2004, after which I attended all but one home games until I graduated in '08.

IIRC, we named the stadium after Jack Trice that night, and princess Dianna died that night. Anyone know if that is right?

My 1st game too. August 30, 1997. Got the tickets for my birthday. It was the best gift I could've gotten at that age. After I got them, I stood there with a shocked look frozen on my face and I wasn't able to say anything for several minutes.

It was the game that they dedicated and named it Jack Trice Stadium. I was in awe the whole game except for when I saw that creepy Pistol Pete and the fact that we lost 21-14.

I considered this year's win vs OSU as payback for them beating ISU during my 1st game and the 1st game after they named it Jack Trice Stadium. By the way, after Benton's interception in the 2nd OT. I had the same reaction as when I got those 1st ISU tickets...shocked look frozen on my face and unable to speak for several minutes.

Early 80's, not sure of the year. Versus Oklahoma, the J.C Watts days for OU. I think David Archer was QB, and Dwayne Crutchfield was the RB. We got spanked badly, but was a fun time.

Regular season finale vs. Kansas 2000. Super cold that day. My dad and I wore snowmobile suits & ski masks and stood in the top corner of the crappy old South endzone section. I remember seeing us in the highlights later that night because we were easy to spot.

My first game was also Danny Mac's first game. Ohio, 1995. I remember rushing the field and the crowd tearing down the goal post since they didn't win a game in the 94 season.

Tennessee Tech @ home in i believe 2002, i remember a long td pass from Seneca to Danielsen

2002 Iowa State hosted Tennessee Tech and smoked them 63-7 or so behind Seneca Wallace.

This one was mine as well. It would have been the home opener against KU, but I went home for Labor Day instead! :wideeyed:

probably the most exciting game in Clyde Williams field history. The 23-23 tie with Nebraska in '72. And turning to my gf and saying to her, "What if we miss the extra point?" Now you know who to blame.

Probably the most exciting game in the history of ISU football giving that Nebraska just won the Nat Championship 10-months earlier.

Do I understand our kicker's PAT miss was the only miss of his entire 4-year career ??
That is just ISU luck.

Saturday November 19, 1988. Iowa State vs Oklahoma State. Barry Sanders went for about 300 that day, but was a pretty competitive game until the 4th quarter from what I remember.

My grandpa always tells me about how he was in Ames on a fall saturday in the early 60's, doing a pavement sample for the company he worked for. As they approached Clyde Williams stadium, they notice a bunch of ropes dangling off the back of the grand stand, down to the street along Lincoln Way.

Students were tying the ropes to the kegs, and hoisting them into the stadium that way.

I've also heard stories about Ralphie getting pelted with oranges and liquor bottles at Clyde Williams, causing him to freak out, and start stampeding around the field, and this is apparently why he never goes to road games anymore.

Went with my brother on a recruiting visit in 2005 or 2006 against Tech. It might have been McCarneys last year or so. All of the fans were turning on him. I think ISU got out early and then squandered it away. Didnt leave a good impression in my mind of ISU football. The next game was when UNI barely lost the year before they won. Both times ISU fans treated us (Panther fans) like trash. Again, left a bad taste in my mouth. Needless to say, I wasnt thrilled by his decision to come to ISU. I have come to embrace his decision and ISU. Its been a good past 4 years.
