September 30, 1972 Iowa State 31 New Mexico 0 - don't remember much about that day except the NM helmets for some odd reason which is the same as their flag and we were studying flags in school.

And the unforgettable...November 11, 1972 Iowa State 23 Nebraska 23. I remember that day well. Sat next to an elderly nebby couple. Really nice people. Was cold that day and the lady kept buying my brother and I hot chocolate - that is until the Cyclones came back and tied the game.

Most of the games I had attended were with my father who goes by the name of isucyc...say hello everybody!!!

1992 Win over Nebraska, I was in junior high. I remember standing around for 30 minutes after the game watching the fans storm the field and tear down the fg posts.

2005 Illinois State. A typical DMac game where we played down to the opponent and were not aggressive.

I can still remember walking to the stadium and hearing people sing "Don't know the words! Don't know the words! Don't know the words to this stupid ******* song!" And being super confused by it.

Its to bad they don't play that anymore. It was a nice tradition.

They still do.

2002 ? against Nebby while ranked #1 with Heisman winner Eric Crouch.

Also my first interaction with Nebraska fans... solidified my stance as a Cyclone. 13 years old.

Must have been 2000 (when kNU was #2); Crouch was gone by 2002, and we beat them that year (a very fun game...it was mostly downhill after that, though).

Late sixties at Clyde Williams Field. Don't recall the opponent...
Did see the tie against Nebraska where Keith Krepfle caught the game tying TD in the southeast corner of the endzone and then Tom Gidgeon (sp?) missed the extra point...Some things never change...
Was at the game when a (I think Idaho State or Utah State) player jumped from the sidelines to tackle Buddie Hardeman who was headed for the endzone. The Refs awarded a touchdown to ISU and Earle Bruce was going nuts on the sidelines.

My parents took me as an infant to Clyde Williams Field in 1963 when my dad was a senior living in Pammel Court. The first game I remember attending was my freshman year in high school in 1977 on October 1 vs. Dayton. We won 17 - 13. Vinnie Cerrato caught a touchdown pass right in front of us (my high school team rode a bus to the game with our coach) in the south end zone. I remember the students throwing what seemed like hundreds of rolls of toilet paper onto the field early on in the game. I recall thinking to myself this must be what big time college football is all about. Of course, if you did that today you'd cost your team a penalty I'm sure. The sight of all those rolls streaming toward the field was pretty impressive.

My first football game for ISU was against Wyoming on September 7, 1996. I was eight years old. My grandmother took me, just us two, and she scalped tickets so we could sit close to the band. She was a trumpet player for Boone High School... back in the 40s... and I eventually spent six years with the same instrument in the CMB. All that stuff was great, but the rest of the game was rather inauspicious.

We were willing comfortably in the middle of the third quarter, and we left early, thinking we had it won. I was young and she was old, so don't give us a hard time for it. Then, of course, soon as we leave Wyoming starts coming back, eventually winning the game in overtime. This is the only real record of the game I could find:

Wedel Kicks Wyoming Past Cyclones in Overtime, 41-38 - Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports

So, yeah, not a good start to my Cyclone career, but, in fairness, I guess it prepared me to a few of the bad breaks over the years, punctuated by those rare moments of glory that make it all worth it in the end. But there's my first football game, which proved to be something of a microcosm of my career at Iowa State, for that matter.

Ahh yes, the famous first OT game ever in cfb.

mac the mediocre blew a big lead (surpise face here), and then after we won the coin flip for OT, he had us go on offense first...WOW

I remember reading in an old Sports Illustrated, or some publication, him being quoted as saying that they didn't understand the rule. A true classic from the master...

My parents had season tickets from the late 80's to the mid 90's and usually when it got cold late in the season my dad would bring me along instead of my mom so this wasn't the first game I attended I'm sure but certainly the most memorable one I can remember.

9/23/95 ISU vs UNLV We won 57-30 and Troy Davis had 5 TD runs and 300+ yards before being pulled in the 3rd quarter. I was ten at the time. I ended up going with my mom since my dad had to work and honestly I was shocked at the outcome. The Troy Davis show was still fairly new at that point but I remember it being one hell of a fun game. The team had over 500 yards rushing that game.

I attended a few more games with my parents before they gave up their tickets in 98 (basically right before we got competitive) and then attended every home game when I was a student. This year will actually be the first year since 02 that I have not attended an ISU game. When I lived in Chicago it was a pretty easy drive to get back at least once, but now that I'm in Denver it is harder to get back.

I don't think it was the first game I attended, but it's the first one I remember was 1995 with Troy Davis ripping off 291 in the season opener against Ohio.

Not exactly sure.
Not the first one, close though, but the first I can remember. We played okie state to a wild 6-6 tie. All field goals, either shudak or Ty kicking. Don't think we had a first down until second half. Very hot and boring. Even worse when you start sobering up in the blazing heat watching a terrible game.

Believe it was 90 or 91. In the early 90s, they didn't care if you brought boadas ( sp?) in, figured you needed to be drunk to watch that stuff.

My first game was the very first game played in Jack Trice vs Air Force.

The Air Force kicker made a 60+ yard Field Goal ( I think it was 63 yd) , which I believe still stands as the stadium record.

Got my love affair with ISU football started on the right foot by seeing what was probably the most exciting game in Clyde Williams field history. The 23-23 tie with Nebraska in '72. My vivid memories: being there when the gates opened and surging in with the wave of students. A Nebraska fan, long before the game started, nearly beaned by a thrown empty (of course) whiskey bottle. Dave McCurry rolling off the field to the sideline with a broken leg. The last drive and touchdown throw and catch. And turning to my gf and saying to her, "What if we miss the extra point?" Now you know who to blame.

October 4th, 1980 my dad took my brother and I. We sat in the SW corner down low around the goaline we rolled Colorado St and Crutchfield knocked himself out right in front of us jumping the pile landing on his head.

6-6 tie with an Ok St team that ended up 0-10-1 in 1991. Two field goals for each team. It's amazing I ever came back after that snoozefest.

I specifically remember him saying that he wanted to choose the goal both teams would be driving toward to get a crowd noise advantage. So he didn't choose offense first, Wyoming chose defense first.

Still stupid, but at least he had a reason.
