Is there ONE other conference that plays their bball tournament in a state that is not a member, let alone a member that just left? Move it to Kansas, Iowa, or anyplace else. Heck, have it on a rotation. Just not in Missouri. If Missouri doesn't need the B12, we don't need them. Des Moines would sure like to have the B12 tournament there.

Kansas City is right next to Kansas. Is there a difference having it there or in Kansas? Kansas City has more Kansas/Kansas State affiliation than Missouri.

Well Arkansas is probably only 2 hours away. But your point remains.

As was said, Fayetteville, AR is 5.5 hours away, but it won't matter as Missouri would join the SEC East. All the protected rivalries would stay the same, so A&M in the west would become Missouri's protected rival from the east.

As if any of that really matters.

Basically, you would make a city that has been nothing but loyal to the Big 12 despite getting shaft after shaft from Texas take yet another shaft just because of one school's idiocy. Brilliant. Glad you're not a decision-maker in this conference.

It matters a lot. I really don't think it will be played in KC. OKC will be as close as it will be for a while.

Yeah, i agree. Love kc and it is probably as much ku and ksu as mizzou but you can't have it there. Its mostly the principle of it.

I think all ISU fans would love to see it continue in KC, but I can't see that happening. Geographically, Oklahoma City would be right in the center of the conference. Oklahoma City LOVED hosting it before and I would think that KC is surely out now.

Don't panic. It's all part of a clever plan. Missouri is merely pretending to be interested in the SEC.

I want areas with big population and growth potential. New Mexico, Colorado State, and I do like BYU. West better than East for me. And some teams we can beat.

While they are growing, New Mexico will never be as populated as Ohio. Utah and Colorado could pass Ohio 80-100 years from now. BYU at least has passionate fans and truly delivers a #32 TV market with no NFL team.

WVU is the only candidate in the East that's a true negative in terms of media markets. Kentucky delivers a few metro areas at least. WVU is EXACTLY like Nebraska in terms of market, they have the same population of roughly half of Iowa and WVU is the only sports game in town for the most part (I doubt Marshall has a big following).

BYU and WVU are football moves that have some wow factor. Big 12 needs to add at least one of them or this thing is a massive failure. They are both significantly better programs than Missouri historically and they both even match or exceed Mizzou in hoops. I'd say over the past 20 years they are both improvements over A&M and CU as well. Of the teams that left Nebraska is the football tradition we can't replace.

OKC, permanent. Much better fans than Texas. Centrally located. They put fans in the seats.

Further from ISU, but not as far as Texas. See if we can change it THIS YEAR.

If OKC can't work it this year, Pollard should try to lobby for DesMoines.

OKC and DesMoines are not horrible trips for KU and KSU fans.

Why should the state of Missouri and Mizzou get another dime from us? Surely you don't think we should have it there ever again right?

It does matter, this is a horrible move for Mizzou basketball. They won't have a tournament in their home state anymore and should get used to it now. They have road trips to empty arenas all year from here on out.

Auburn just built a brand new arena...that barely hits half of Hilton's capacity. It's a crap basketball conference, especially in the past decade. Tennessee and Vanderbilt are the only atmospheres that rival the Big 8.

I agree with you completely....

The big 12 should tell the state of missouri and kansas city to go to H E double hockey sticks ....

And MOVE the basketball tournament somewhere else...Anyplace except the state of missouri that is trying to destroy the big 12 conference.....

Well, it doesn't make sense to be ****** at KC, where the officials have literally been on their knees begging MU to stay in the Big 12. That's where the vast majority of the political pressure to keep MU in the Big 12 has came from (though apparently the south has won out, in Southern MO they truly believe they are from the south, and are dumb enough to pull it off, and they would rather be with their conferedate pals than us Yankees).

I'm guessing the tourney would now rotate between OKC and Dallas (where nobody even cares about it and it doesn't even make the local sports news). Well, that's bad news for ISU fans who flock to KC for the tournament.

I think Kentucky usually seems to do ok.

Why punish Kansas City? The KC convention bureau and sports commission and so on took out a full-page newspaper ad encouraging Missouri to stay in the Big 12. Doubtful than many KC leaders are pro-SEC. They don't want to lose the Big 12 tournaments.

Lawrence is much closer to KC than Columbia is, and Manhattan is about the same. More KSU and KU fans combined than MU fans in KC metro. Much of the KC metro is in Kansas. The state line happens to be a couple of miles east of the arena, but it's one big metro area and the border doesn't mean much.

Yeah, left out the obvious one.

My point is, they have great dates like @empty Auburn, @empty Ole Miss, @empty Miss State, @empty Georgia (Atlanta Hawks are even empty in the playoffs), @empty Alabama

Even Florida doesn't get that jazzed for basketball.

Solution: Get KCK to build an arena somewhere along the west bank of the river, if you want to appease the "nothing in Missouri" crowd.

I agree that Kansas City has vocally opposed this move by Mizzou, and shouldn't be punished for it. If you combined KU and KSU fans, they'd likely vastly outnumber MU fans in the KC metro. As others have said, Lawrence is considerably closer to KC than Columbia, and Manhattan is about the same.

Kansas City isn't driving this bus off a cliff. That's the Missouri Board of Curators who are listening to a handful of angry fans, whom after my experiences this weekend, seem to be a distinct, yet extremely vocal minority.

Because one benifit Missouri has to being in the B12 is the BBall tourney. Why let the state have the benifit of leaving and the benifit of the bball tourney? There is a LOT of money with that game and I see no reason to help out the hotels, etc. in Missouri.

Missouri is leaving because of money. Why not remind them of that by taking away some of that money? Their report said they would make an extra $20 mil a yr in the SEC....so lets take off the $14 mil that the state gets from the B12 bball games. The people of KC can travel to the games if they still want to watch. That's something everyone else has to do anyway.
