***I wrote this up a while ago. Since the first depth chart is out—and it’s still kinda offseason—thought I’d go ahead and post this.

I am going to pop this out there, for those of us who missed it. Courtesy of the December ‘23 early Cyning Day presser for the recruiting class of ‘24.

Generally on Cyning Day, CMC extolls the virtues of the signees, points out standouts and future “freak athletes”…and, for those of you accustomed to his media day briefings? Surprisingly, he’s both open, honest…and generally proven right down the line.

One exception being the oft injured and recovering Michael “Jamaica” Parkes at WR.

This time, however, he was tossing props to a whole group of late visiting uncommitted high school kids, all the same weekend right before Fall signing day—and all of whom committed and signed.

His opening point was that one day, Cyclone fans will remember that recruiting weekend as a significant moment in Cyclone football history. Both for the sheer talent, and the fact that they landed every single one of the five uncommitted visitors.

So, fair warning.

His second point? That one of the five is going to be even better than all of the others. CMC was pretty confident about that

Here are those five guys, alphabetically.

Alijah Carnell DL 6’5” 290 RFr
First mentioned gleefully by Coach Rasheed in ‘24 camp, then played in spots throughout the season. DE/NG combo player. Likely SDE this fall.

David Coffey CB 6’1” 195 RFr
The fourth corner listed on the depth chart by the end of the season, “Coffee Bean” has gotten glowing references ranging from Darien Porter at the NFL Combine, to Coach Deon Broomfield—who is not his position coach.
*Disappeared suddenly, apparently injured during camp.

Beau Goodwin LB 6’3” 230 Soph
Small town Iowa kid. Played due to injuries in ‘24–and played well. Looked good. Good size, instincts and athleticism.
*On depth chart at Sam LB.

Dominic Overby WR 6’5” 200 RFr
Burst onto the scene as a HS senior with a pile of catches. At the point CMC made this comment, Dom hadn’t yet had his even more ludicrous senior track season in Utah, topping all of Darien Porter’s Iowa marks. Still, hugely talented, and likely to break out over this year and next.

Garrett Rutledge OT 6’7” 305
Totally anonymous western Iowa kid from a recruiting service standpoint, from Council Bluffs. Also, the only one of the bunch who wasn’t mentioned through summer/fall camp last year, or the season. Unsurprising, since he’s an OL, the spot that takes the longest to develop.

That all changed in Spring ball, when Coach Clanton was gloating over how Garrett was smashing faces. Apparently working at both OT and OG.

Why yes, even with the four aforementioned luminaries…Garrett Rutledge is the one CMC said would be the best of the five. That’s not small beans.

Chi Chi’s first location in the U.S. in decades is coming to St. Louis Park in the Twin Cities.

Seems every game we have posters on here that know more than the coaches seem to. "why three straight runs up the middle?", "why didn't we air it out?", "I would have....." etc.
Any takers on here want to draw up a game plan for beating K State before the game, rather than second-guessing a play call after it fails?

I'm in the camp that more often than not, a player fails rather than a play. I will admit that I don't know the game, the team, nor the opposition well enough to write the script to win this thing so I put my faith in the coaches to do their job. If we lose, I'll attribute it to a bad break or two, stupid penalties on our part or yes, getting beat by a better team, but I can't outcoach a coach.

Not that it will be followed, but anybody want to scheme this win into existence before the game? If not, I'm sure I will find out after what should have been done

used to like, but now dislike: Brett Favre (used to love his gunslinging mentality and toughness, some of the recent allegations was disgusting)

used to dislike, but now like: George Kittle (Hawk, but funny guy and good teammate to Brock)

New Minnesota law effective 7/1 allows motorcycles to lane split or filter.

So far I've seen motorcycles split lanes while traffic was doing 60 in a 65 zone and they were too impatient to wait their turn getting around the slower vehicle in the right lane like everyone else. Last night we were at a stoplight with a left turn lane and right turn lane (your only options) and a motorcycle pulls up into the middle of the front vehicles. SOB can't go straight, so now the vehicles have to figure out if he's going left or right?

Beginning to think this is a strategic measure to cull the herd.

(Side note: we've had motorcycles in the past and my husband said he'd never take those chances while on one)

Here's the requirements/rules for lane splitting, but I will guess 95% of the people only heard they can lane split:

• Lane splitting allows a motorcycle to share a lane with and pass a vehicle in slow-moving traffic at no more than 25 mph, and no more than 15 mph over the speed of traffic. Once traffic gets back up to 25 mph, the motorcycle must go back into their own lane of traffic.
• Lane filtering allows motorcycles to move through traffic that is stopped, such as at a stoplight or in a traffic jam. The motorcyclist cannot go more than 15 mph as they filter toward the front of the line of traffic.
• Splitting and filtering are prohibited in roundabouts, school zones, freeway on-ramps and work zones where traffic has been funneled down to a single lane.

We've been lucky to keep places like El Bait and the Iowa Taproom, but the struggle is real.

In 2016, I went to San Diego and visited some of the best beer bars in the country. places like Toronado, Bottlecraft, Tiger Tiger. In 2020 I went back and they were all gone.

Need some home remedies or tried and successful options for getting dog and cat hair off couches and chairs. We’ve tried vacuuming and various products that say they remove all the hair but have yet to find something that actually does a great job.

Any ideas? Can be home remedies or products. Thanks!
