Why Do People Hate Daughtry?

Comparing DMB to nickleback/daughtry is just musical ignorance. Like them or not, DMB writes really musically complex and unusual, unique songs. That doesn't mean they are "good", but it's a hell of a lot more than what Nickleback or Daughtry do. You might not like DMB, but that doesn't mean they aren't extraordinary musicians.

Complexity in arrangements doesn't mean that an artist is that good, or that you'd ever want to listen, but it's a clearly discernible aspect that demands a level of respect, even if you don't like it. For example, I don't like Rush, but those guys can seriously play their instruments.

Call me a music elitist, but here's how I evaluate musicians:

-Do they lip sync at concerts?

-Do they play an instrument?

-Do they write their own songs?

-Do they use Auto-tune?

Too many "musicians" these days are nothing but shiny industry creations, with good looks and zero talent. American Idol vexes me, because they fail on many of these criteria, and I know that there is legitimate musical talent out there that is better and remains undiscovered because they aren't shiny industry creations. They are doomed to toil in obscurity.

I'd MUCH rather listen to Nickelback or Daughtry than DMB. DMB's songs all sound the same, and in my opinion, suck. A lot of the same people that say Nickelback's songs all sound the same then follow up saying they like AC/DC, whose songs all sound the same.

Sure does. Ex: I hate the Hawkeyes, but I know they have a really good defense. Music works the same way. I don't like Steve Vai at all, but he's a really, really talented guitar player.
