When was the last time Iowa put someone on the field/court after spending 258 days or whatever in jail?

When was the last time Iowa punished a player for their criminal offenses? Antwan Allen punched a kid outside a bar and broke his jaw.... He missed 1 game? Are you kidding?

What punishment did Hammerschmidt get for a DUI? In my opinion, a DUI is a much more egregious offense than getting busted with some pot. A DUI puts others life in danger...lighting up in some kids dorm room doesn't. It is illegal, and for that they should serve a punishment, but it should not exceed what Hammerschmidt got.

This I do agree with.

Geez people, get off your high horses. IF this is a first offense they should not be kicked off. A game or two suspension. If it's 3-4 I wouldn't be upset but to boot them off the team for this is just dumb.

Any person who considers another person a scumbag simply because they smoked weed is flat-out ********. That is pretty much all there it to it. There is really no point in arguing with anyone that idiotic.

Agree. People who huff keyboard cleaner, now those are some scumbags.

Nevermind. It is obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about and are simply arguing from a position of ignorance.

Please educate me. I would like to see medically how marijuana cures a hangover, other than just covering up the symptoms while the body naturally deals with the exceesive alcohol consumption that caused the hangover in the first place.

There's no doubt in my mind coach PR will handle this situation appropriately. Kicking these guys off the team is going too far and slapping them on the wrist is not enough. At the very minimum, they should be looking at 1-2 game suspension, community service and extra "conditioning", plus an apology to the entire team.

Debating the legality of the offense and it's severity and how its seen publicly is a moot point. Much is expected of these young men and they made a mistake that there will be reprecussions for.

This is what I've been getting at. I get the impression that a lot of people in this thread find weed possession to be worse than a DUI, just because of some ridiculous stigma that they've never looked at objectively.

Possession of marijuana is a lesser offense than DUI, even in the eyes of the law.

If they are doing it now, they will always do it. I don't need that on my FB team whether they are getting caught or not.

1 and done in the case of weed.

Will be disappointed if it is anything less.

Just out of curiosity, would you feel the same way for a football player who was arrested for public intox - 1 and done? I would argue that getting a public intox is a much more severe lack of judgment than smoking a joint in a private residence.

This might change my opinion. If they were selling/growing it then they are too dumb to be on the team.

Yeah - this has me a little concerned as well.

Is it common for a warrant to be issued, and the need to turn themselves in if it's just lighting up at home?

At the same time - if they are growing or selling - I don't think they're left to turn themselves in. You get a ride to the station in such cases. So I doubt it's that.

One of the funniest stories I've ever heard is one my elderly neighbors told me about when one of their sons came back from college and asked his mom, who is a very good gardener, to take care of his "Japanese Tomato Plants" while he was gone. She tended to them with the utmost care, and marvelled at how they were growing...until her husband went behind the garage to take a look, and saw that they weren't "Japanese Tomato Plants" and proceeded to cut them all down.

What a bag of onions that kid had to have his mom grow weed for him!

This has nothing to do with the hawkeyes. Nothing whatsoever.

So you believe CPR should completely rewrite the Iowa State Athletic Dept's policies on dealing with misdeameanor possession to make an example of these 3 players? Even though ISU has never in the past kicked athlete's off their teams for this simple crime? Rules should be applied fairly to all, it is unfair to a student athlete to be punished more harshly than their crime calls for to make an example or to impress you.

Yes, yet another example of a poster getting off at the thought of an ISU coach making an example of players.

Not surprising that you think it's no big deal. Maybe you can show me your latest write up on why pot should be legalized because it is so good for you. :jimlad:

Well, they weren't charged w/those crimes per the Story County website. They had "Possession of a Controlled Substance" which is a lesser charge than they would receive for selling/producing a commercial quantity.

Oh, you will not find the medicinal values of Marijuana extolled in the pages of The New England Journal of Medicine but where you will find...sorry...what were we talking about again?...
