You don't really have to get the Real ID but then you'd have to bring your passport with you anytime you fly which shouldn't be a big issue for you since you generally only fly to your seaside villa in Fiji, your chalet on the Matterhorn or your estate in Bordeaux.
I have actually only flown outside the US once in my whole miserable existence. But that was Baja California so is that really foreign? I mean it is California....

Yeah, I gotta renew my drivers license. I suppose I should figure out how they made it more complicated with the whole Real-ID thing...
Mine is good until 2023 and I think the switch is mandatory before then? No matter, I use my passport when flying anyway.

Side note - when I renewed online in 2014 my previous license was from 2007. I was pretty surprised that they gave a 59 year old a nine year license without a new picture or eye exam. Basically, by the time I go in for the next one, I will have had a license for 16 years (age 52 to age 68) with no visit to the DMV in the meantime. My license lists "no restrictions"; it does not reflect a need for corrective lenses. I am wearing them full time now. I wonder how many people who SHOULD be wearing glasses when they drive are slipping through the cracks like I could if I chose?

Mexico should just cede that to us. Then Jesse Ventura would be living in the U.S. again.

How many people who have the restriction on their license still regularly drive without them?

Supposedly, my work ID is supposed to be adequate for flying but when I've tried it, the TSA people have been so confused that I just get out my license instead.

True - but if I'm caught driving without mine, they can't fine me for it. :D
Point being, eyes age rapidly after 50. So I'm surprised that the DMV doesn't shorten the span between actual DMV visits.

What the heck is Real-ID?
Guess I better read up it. I just renewed my passport last year

The Feds are requiring more secure ID for air travel. Meaning that your state issues drivers licenses with more documentation backing them up. Minnesota has been slow to comply and now issues a license that complies and another that doesn't. If I want to fly with it as my ID, I have to get the license that complies with the Feds' rules.

EDIT: The passport trumps everything so you can just fly with that in any case.

Just an idle question - do they use any of that money for the purpose defined in their name?
Obviously I am not privy to their finances, but as a 501c3 they better have their books in order. I know if any Iowa members want to go to STEAM (Seminars to Educate and Motivate) ABATE pays their entry. In Nebraska we have to pay it ourselves.

I just looked it up and mine has the gold star on it so I guess I am compliant

When my sister was little she would cheat by taking all the bad cards out and hiding them.
Our three year old granddaughter informed us that when SHE drew a "bad" card or landed on a bad space, it meant she got to draw again. However, the same did not hold true for any other players. I know - big surprise, right?

Truth. Stopped even trying to use my old DoD card. Federal employees/contractors that can't even recognize a Department of Defense ID, JFC. The TSA folks that aren't mean are dumb. The worse are mean and dumb.
