This week is the ABATE of Iowa Freedom Rally in Algona. I'll be up there selling raffle tickets for our charity group. I'm not camping and the nearest hotel for a reasonable price was in Humboldt so I'll be staying there. I'll be close enough to Fort Dodge and Taco Tico that I should stop by either Thursday when I go out there or Sunday when I head back to Omaha.
There are very few good times to live in Algona....ABATE is one of the worst times.

We've crossed paths with his dad at a couple of games after meeting him in Maui. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. Dad & Mom were at nearly all of his home games last year. You know how Tyrese is nearly always smiling on the court? So's dad. :D
His dad was a RIOT in Hawaii. About the nicest guy you could ever meet.

I remember when the ABATE Rally was always at Sheldon Park in Humboldt.

I miss Taco Tico so much. Everybody in FD loves it. Taco Tico is to Fort Dodge what Runza is to Nebraska except that Tico is awesome and Runza's just OK. I'd recommend ordering a Tico Dinner plate and a smothered sancho (it's not on the menu).

When did they quit having it in Humboldt?

ABATE of Iowa bought land just northeast of Algona just for the rally sometime around 2001-2002. Now it's on private property.
ABATE of Iowa is filthy rich.

If I wasn't selling raffle tickets I wouldn't go. Maybe it will be fun but I see no appeal in going to bike nights and such. I don't get the appeal of just hanging around drinking with people that most likely 95% I wouldn't want to hang around with any other time.

I don't remember exactly. Maybe a dozen years or so? GR8 should know. And yeah, smothered sanchos are the bomb!

Just an idle question - do they use any of that money for the purpose defined in their name?

So I am minding my own business last night when apparently I bumped something into an electrical plug that was plugged into an outlet and the metal wire for my meat thermometer was apparently sitting on top of it which then slipped between the wall and the plug touching the prongs which were still engaged in the outlet causing it all to short out and send sparks flying and charring the outlet face. So that was fun.

Nice and it's not even the 4th yet! And you might want to replace that outlet.

I left my little instant read electronic temp thingie out on the grill the other day and through several thunderstorms. Cheap little thing is apparently more water tight that I would have thought. Still works after I dumped the water out of the battery compartment.

Now you've done it. You're going to bring in the RTT Contrarion to say how crappy (or perhaps merely average) the Tico is. Of course, he hasn't posted in here for a while, so it would be nice to see him.

He didn't eat at the original Iowa Taco Tico. He ate at the copycat one up north. They're just not the same. I'd say there is a very good chance that one may have had a drug ring working out of it, also, at some point.

edit: Allegedly

Suppose I should mosey on over to the license bureau and pick up license tabs for Das Audi since they expired in June. Little date stamp on the confuser screen here says it's July now. o_O

DH was in the Lions Club that served Sunday morning breakfast at the OxBow Building. Apparently there are some legendary stories about people who showed up for breakfast ....

Yeah, I gotta renew my drivers license. I suppose I should figure out how they made it more complicated with the whole Real-ID thing...

I'm hearing some rumbling from the sky down here at work. A few air show participants must be getting some air time in.

You don't really have to get the Real ID but then you'd have to bring your passport with you anytime you fly which shouldn't be a big issue for you since you generally only fly to your seaside villa in Fiji, your chalet on the Matterhorn or your estate in Bordeaux.
