There apparantly was more to the story about Phelps huge appetite than just his grueling workout regimen; now we really know why he has the munchies.

And the employer that decided they didn't want marijuana smokers is sued out of existence the first time they try this, by an employee that doesn't want to be "discriminated against for legal activity they engage in during their personal time." That'll go pretty well.:no:

Alcohol is legal, but if I went to work drunk I would be fired and I would not get any unemployment nor would I have grounds to sue. Same goes for pot, tests would need to be developed to determine level of intoxication rather than just the level of THC in your blood stream. Besides, most smokers would likely cost themselves their jobs due to increasing incompetence and poor work performance and employers can always use that as an excuse to fire you especially in a right to work state.

The last part I agree with. Incompetence would certainly go up.

In certain fields, one can show up inder the influence and face no penalty. I've had some co-workers do just that the last couple of years.

I am not a smoker, never had the want nor would I in the future but I am starting to see the need for debate on this. I am starting to open up to the ideas of some form of decriminalization of marijuana. It seems as though the stigma of legalizing it is much worse than the actual downsides. I agree there would have to be some strong regulation and limits enforced but there has to be a common sense middle ground somewhere. I just really think the resources we as a country have been using to fight it could be more effectively used elsewhere.

The only way I would be for any type of legalization would be if employers had the right to punish for use on the job or being under the influence while on the job. There would have to be a similar way to test such as for alcohol, the effects of the two are not that far apart in my opinion. Though I am sure there are many more people on this board with more knowledge of the subject then I.:mask::wink:

Money/endorsements/fame doesn't really make you relax any easier...

I take it you have never smoked pot.

It's illegal, but it's not THAT illegal, lol. That propaganda against marijuana is just unbelievable. Alcohol is much worse and it's still perfectly legal. I have no clue why our government doesn't regulate it, legalize it, tax the heck out of it, and make bank. Alcohol kills/hurts more people than marijuana ever will.

At least one thing they can never say: it was a performance enhancer. lol, one of my favorite standups ever was Robin Williams Live on Broadway when he was talking about that.

They could regulate it and employers could still make a determination on what they allow so that people would have to chose between that and their jobs.

I'm oretty sure people already have to choose between that and their jobs. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who was pleased when his company started mandatory testing, so that he had to stop.

My favorite marijuana propaganda:

At my high school, there was a poster of a guy smoking a joint. Just below was the same guy in a coffin. The ignorance on the subject is amazing.

This will be interesting. The olympics have a 4 year ban if you are caught using an illegal substance. I wonder if this is enough evidence or do they need to actually test him. He should announce his retirement now, and then just say he is back after 120 days.

Didn't Phelps also get in trouble for driving drunk few years back... is there a possible pattern here? Could there be many other similar instances where he didn't get caught? Just wondering...

Oh my god, a young guy smoking marijuana!!!!!! Who cares? Burn one down Michael...

Something like an olympic ban MAY be why its kinda a huge deal. Not debating the pot thing (its an idiotic thing for so many reasons but you generally don't realize that until you put many years behind you) but there are ramifications for one's actions.

The question is why would you (not you, but "you") think doing a couple of bongers is really that much better than the financial guarantees you just gave away...

The govt really should think about decriminalizing it and then just taxing the crap out of it.

Yet they are working on outlawing cigerattes. Sometimes I wonder if the same group that wants cigerattes banned everywhere is the same group that wants pot legal.
