Agreed. I just don't see WVU as a stability builder. After 5 years of the travel headaches and expenses, they'll be applying to the ACC.

WVU has no chance at the ACC. They have good football and basketball, but the ACC seems to be looking very closely at the caliber of the institution. WVU is not an "ACC type" school. Same reasons they're not looking at ECU. Plus West Virginia only has like 2 million people.

I think if Louisville and Cincinasty bring the Big 12 back to 12+ then it will be a good add. By itself it's kind of silly though. I'm also happy about being able to drive to Morgantown from here in North Carolina. I'll actually be able to see the Cyclones LIVE!

As far as the NY Post article, I'm glad the Big 12 is on the offense now, regardless of what Misery's plans are.

I really hope the whole staying at 10 teams thing is just posturing. It makes no sense to grab WVU and not bring in a couple more and get back to 12 (and make more geographic sense). Doesnt make sense not to try to get Louisville in here with them.

I really think this just sets up Louisville and Cincy.

Now yur talkin big boy....

Think Big and Be Agressive as they say....

I have been saying that Louisville would be my 1st choice but it would make a lot more sense er dollars and cents.....

To induce West Virginia and Louisville and Cincinnati to join the big 12 and it would make a lot more geographic sense if you want the Conference to add the basic element of ....You got it Big Boy....STABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the Big 12 really being "offensive" though? It seems that their moves are reactionary to me. TAM says that they are gone so the big 12 finds a replacement. Now we are going to add WVU IF Missou leaves? Why not go out and make moves before schools leave the conference?
Why is the Big 12 not trying to poach other conferences like they are doing to the Big12?

I wish Moo U would just announce that they are leaving already. I think in their minds, they actually mean something to college athletics. They'd be wrong.

As little as I know, I am CERTAIN that the withdrawal timeline is not influenced at all by our delusion that we mean something to college athletics. More likely, they're negotiating the buyout terms (which actually involve more than just MU). My guess it is ends up somewhere between $10M and $20M.

At this point, the actual withdrawal doesn't matter a bit. The Big 12 is moving to fill the spot, and whether MU leaves today, next week, or even next MONTH, it shouldn't affect anything in regards to WVU joining the B12.

Per Pete Thamel of The New York Times, West Virginia has "applied for and been accepted for membership" in the Big XII. I'd post the link but I'm posting this frommy phone.

I like it. WVU has been a good athletic school in recent years. Don't know much about their academics, but should be a good fit. So their not close, big deal. It's better than being in the MWC.

It's a big deal for the student-athletes who are supposed to be in class getting an education, not traveling over half the continent on a regular basis to play sports.

Obviously, conference realignment has pretty much disregarded the well being of the athletes. I guess that's where we are now...

Yeah, I'm with you. Adding Notre Dame's non-football sports has done nothing to stabilize the Big East. Either add schools for everything, or don't add them. Plus, it gives precedence for Texas going independent in football and leaving their other sports in the Big XII.

If the deal is that Notre Dame must play SIX Big12 teams in football each year, it's like they are a virtual member in football also. They get to pick and choose who they want to play, but that's not really different. I don't really like it, because the issue essentially is the Notre Dame elistist ****** say "Um...not a chance in hell of us playing a road game in Ames or Manhattan." Overall, it strengthens the conference I think - Notre Dame playing half their games against our best conference teams.

Apparently, Mizzou is being promised one of the six slots against Notre Dame as a carrot, and I tend to believe that is being offered. If that IS IN FACT true, AND MU still leaves for the SEC, it will take the irrationality of the decision to a whole new level.

So if ND joins and this 6 games a year thing happens.... Less Big 12 teams will make a bowl? Not that ND has been good recently but that is adding a heavy hitter to everyone's non-con schedule. People on here complain about ISU playing Iowa every year.

The only way that the buyout is as small as $10mil is if Mizzou plays the 2012 season in the Big12. That doesn't seem like something they want to do. If Mizzou wants to play in the SEC in 2012, you better expect the full amount of the exit fees to be paid. In my opinion, if Mizzou and Aggie get out with anything less than $20mil a piece the new Big12 leaders have failed just as badly as Beebe.

We get it, you want ISU to play in the MAC or sun Belt.
you really can't find anything positive in any situations can you?

"West Virginia is headed to the Big 12, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation, a move that leaves the Big East with five football programs and an uncertain future. The person said Tuesday that the Mountaineers had “applied and are accepted,â€￾ "

Not sure if that is the one?

I am not bashing ND at all - I would love it. I personally think that BCS teams should be forced to play ONLY BCS teams in the non-con. I HATE games like Texas/Middle western technical institute. I actually like seeing competition.
I am just pointing out that if the big 12 did do this - it would FORCE 6 of the 10/9 teams to play a tough non-con game every year.

Isn't that pretty much the same deal they have now with the Big10? I don't consider them a member of that league.

The only ways that ND works is either full membership, or BYU for football and ND for everything else. Partial football membership should not be an option. I think the BYU/ND option could work if it is understood that it would lead to full membership for each in the future (2015-2016).

Question: Why (according to Chip) would ND want to join the B12 as a full member after YEARS of rebuffing offers from the Big 10 and the Big East? This just doesn't add up.

Take WVU for next year (either paying or blowing up the Big East) and add L-ville and somebody else for 2013. Don't mess with Notre Dame.

And not to get off topic, but there really isn't ANY carrot that could entice Missouri now. We want the SEC. We don't want the B1G (despite what you've read, a B1G move would be met with the same reaction as staying in the Big 12). Nobody here is really in a position to judge the "rationality" of the move.

Focus on the teams that want to be here. (I'm not sure if that means WVU or not)

This post directly describes why Missouri is so stupid. You as a fanbase are dumb as hell, and I for one am glad to see you guys go.

Missouri pretty much ruined the Big12, and they never stopped crying. I'm going to love watching mesowwy get stomped in the SEC.
