The wild card in a search is often the fact that coaches that may not be on the radar will probably be sending out feelers to Jamie as well.

That's an excellent point. I'd sure like to see JP legitimately explore but it seems as if Otz has been annointed for some time now. Glass half full, it's an enormous opportunity.

If he went to a coaching search firm, Otz probably isn't the lock to be HC like everyone thinks.

Even in the report about Otz it's clear that *allegedly* even though JP wants TJ, others involved have to sign off on it.

So it could be due diligence with it being a formality that JP convinces them, or it could not be.

So Green Bay or Northern Kentucky were the interviews he might have not gotten hired for. Got it. I almost forgot about Northern Kentucky. Thanks for the reminder.

Drake wouldn't even interview him two years ago. Low major schools were somewhat interested in interviewing him this year. And instead he may get a Power 5 job with a Top 10 team? Otz may turn out to be a great head coach but people really shouldn't wonder why some Cyclone fans might not jump up and down at the hire.

Drake's basketball acumen does not carry a lot of weight with me.

Maybe Drake concerned that he would leave to go to ISU once Fred jumped to NBA.

True...but they should have been interested to at least talk if TJ was interested. You'd think Fred and JP have enough casual contact to have been able to get him in the room.

I know nothing about TJ. However, the way this Fred situation is playing out I no longer trust Fred's judgement...

I think Hoops made a great point that I hadn't considered.

I am for giving a guy his due. but Otz couldn't recruit a winning team with macd. So it appears he will be coming up short without Freds endorsement as being head coach. Unfortunately life is unfair. Maybe Nurse or Fizer would be better. I don't know. The only time Pollard hired a successful coach, it was the coach that did the self hiring. That coach would be Fred. Fred is the guy that got him to do it. And now he is leaving for the money. Yea I know its not about the money. But we all know that is a cop out. My inkling is that had Pollard offered him a money truck as Iowa did Ferentz Fred would have a hard time turning it down. It is about the money. If ISU had a bunch of lawyers and doctors maybe this wouldn't be happening. But we don't. And I am not rich so I can do nothing about it. So thank you Fred for the short time you were here. And as for Pollard? Can we get Gene Smith to help us here? Because Pollard might be as much over his head as Otz will probably be. It was a great run.

I see the McDermott era as an outlier. TJ brought in a lot of talent. I don't think Greg was good at fitting his system to the talent.

Yea I do agree that McDermott surprisingly struggled. But it in my opinion came down to the Stevie Johnsons and Naders where his squads struggled. He didn't have the depth as well as the ability to mold his teams to their strengths.

I really wonder why some people are listing Marcus Fizer as an apparently serious candidate. He was a stud at ISU, no two ways about it, but what had he done post-ISU to make people think he'd be a good coach?
