Drinking age should be 18 or 19, if you can vote, get married, get drafted you should be able to buy a drink and smokes.
I would be in favor of 18 AND graduated from HS. That was part of the push back when they raised it if I remember correctly.

When I was s freshman it was 21 (and also 21 to vote) and while I was in college it went to 18 in 1972 and back up to 19 in 1973 and than back to 21 by 1986. The 1970's were the true heyday of partying at ISU. Even at 21 the ID checking was pretty lax once you weren't a complete HS looking kid. Fake ID's were abundant and draft cards worked as ID.

States only went back to 21 because they were threatened with losing federal highway funds if they did not. A lot of rationale for lowering to 18 was the Vietnam draft, old enough to to be drafted than you should be old enough to vote and drink.

I was once at a bar in Chippewa Falls and saw a kid who had to be 12-14 having a Spotted Cow with his parents. It was weird to me.
Heard about this law a few years back and honestly am a big fan of it. Personally, I think in most cases that if kids learn how to drink from their parents and learn their limits that way, they won't be as belligerent with it as they would be if they learned to drink from their fellow teenage friends.

3. A person or persons under legal age shall not purchase or attempt to purchase,
consume, or individually or jointly have alcoholic beverages in their possession or control; except in the case of any alcoholic beverage given or dispensed to a person under legal age within a private home and with the knowledge, presence, and consent of the parent or guardian, for beverage or medicinal purposes or as administered to the person by either a physician or dentist for medicinal purposes and except to the extent that a person under legal age may handle alcoholic beverages during the regular course of the person’s employment by a retail alcohol licensee, or wine or beer permittee under this chapter.

According to subsection 3 of Iowa Code section 123.47, parental consent restricted to private home.
Couldnt remember if it was just at home or every where but still a tailgate with family should also be fine.

Yep, if family is ok with an adult 18-20 having a beer or three at the family tailgate then leave it alone. We are not talking about letting 10 year olds drink (though they can in Wisconsin with parental approval).

Some told us La Casa Maya is closed now. I haven’t driven down there yet to verify it. Said they took their sign down and people were working on the roof. Saw in another post their state inspections were not good either.

Students can thank Pollard because they no longer have their own tailgating spot... Back in the day you were usually pretty safe in the student tailgating area but if you left you didn't really want to be carrying anything around. As long as things didn't get out of hand the cops typically left us be.

Actually it’s been the opposite for years, more often than not you’re going to get stopped in the student lots south of the stadium than if you were in the lots north of the stadium.

I went to mullets for a brunch/lunch, it was very average, not good, not bad, probably not worth the price though. It was also dead and it was a home football Saturday, North Dakota I think, which I thought was odd.

Mullets hasn’t been good since full court press owned it. It’s wild to me that the Des Moines location is only open during the morning/early afternoon. The current ownership thinking they can franchise out amuses me. I don’t think Ames or Ankeny will make it. Norwalk will probably have the best chance since there isn’t much out that way, and its location.

Ankeny could solely based upon the bike trail but when there's no patio open its really not that large.

Had heard Fareway's CEO's wife was looking at a franchise for Norwalk.

I didn't know they are trying franchise from Mullets. Interesting.

When do business put their training/orientation employee in the public website in their section bar.

They were putting a new roof on, but not aware of them closing.
