In Memoriam: Ames Business/Restaurants

Come to west Ames. There is a dearth of bars and restaurants.
I live in West Ames. It would be nice to have another option or two out here, but Ames isn't really big enough to make getting anywhere in town all that inconvenient.

Was hoping Mullets would fill a void, but that hasn't proved to be the case.

Didn't Ruttles have a special ice cream dessert? Ram-a-lang-a-ding-dong or something like that? Not sure what was in it.
5 scoops of chocolate, 5 scoops of vanilla, a banana, huge brownie, whipped cream, nuts and a cherry. Did it myself senior year of high school ut never got my picture/name on the wall... You still had to pay for it.

The 'dumbs' to this post are dumb. Some of you must not have been much fun to hang out with back in school and/or you are hypocrite now. I wasn't suggesting that the Ames Police drive around the tailgating lots with coolers full of beer and hand them out to underage students. I merely said that OVER-POLICING the lots and specifically going out of your way to try to bust 19 or 20 year-olds having a few beers at their parent's tailgate who are causing ZERO issues is a bad idea. Be sure not to fall off of your high horse though.

I also die a little inside with every dumb rating on my posts

So in a private home a parent can provide beers to their 14 year old and that's totally legal, but at their tailgate it is illegal for that parent to provide a beer to that child's 20 year old older sibling. Makes sense.
So at what age do you think we should let kids drink in public if they’re with a parent? Do they have to be within eyesight of their parent the entire time? What if the parent is also drinking and intoxicated? Is that adequate supervision for a minor drinking alcohol? Lots of scenarios that could end badly.

18. I think in Wisconsin it is legal for underage children to drink in public places with a parent present (bars/restaurants) if the establishment is willing to serve them. I know it used to be at least.

16 to 19 seems like it works fine in the rest of the free world. 21 is really an oddity

Drinking age should be 18 or 19, if you can vote, get married, get drafted you should be able to buy a drink and smokes.
I would be in favor of 18 AND graduated from HS. That was part of the push back when they raised it if I remember correctly.

I guess my point is that not all parents are responsible adults. Do we let 16yo’s drink in bars as long as a parent is in the building? How would you enforce parental supervision?
