Re: NCAA MBB to 68

I can live with 68. So do the #1 seeds have a bye then?

Re: NCAA MBB to 68

My guess would be that there would be a play-in game for all regions. #1 seeds would play the winner of each

making the 16 seed upset even more unlikely.

If ISU ever gets a #1 seed, I'm putting $100 on the 16, regardless of who it is.

That way, I can't lose. $100 to avoid the embarrassment/heartbreak, and if we do what only ISU could, I'll have some cash to help ease the pain.

I don't think so.

Generally these teams have a long long layoff before the tourney, since their conf tourneys end early. So playing a warmup game shouldn't hurt their chances at the #1 seem.

Plus, teams that used to be #15 seeds will now be part of the 8 #16 seeds, improving the quality of the teams that a #1 seed will play in the first round.

So I think it would (very slightly) increase the odds of a #16 seed upsetting a #1 seed.

Interesting.

Turner getting into the fray. They don't do any CBB games now...do they? Will they start doing any regular season games...or just the tournament? Did not have time to read that lengthy release...did they say?

If Turner does only do the tournament, I hope they get some of the CBB announcers from ESPN and Fox to do the games or this will be like Fox having the BCS games and using a bunch of pro guys to do those games when they appear to barely know anything about the players and teams in college.

I like more games on TV...just want some announcers that are college guys to make it a better view.

Wow you forget that these stations bring the best NBA coverage available and baseball games all season. TNT and TBS have been broadcasting sports for decades.

Yeah, so TBS has been basically the home station for the Braves for forever, and TNT has had some NBA games now that the popularity of the league has declined. But the NCAA tourney is right up there with the Super Bowl and the BCS as far as major sporting events. It isn't something I would put TBS in the mix for.

Networks I think of before TBS for sports coverage.
ABC
CBS
NBC
Fox
ESPN
ESPN2
ESPNU
Fox Sports
Versus

After that I may throw TBS and TNT into the mix along with MLBTV and the Golf channel. I have no complaints about all the games being on TV, I am just a little shocked that an event that big is going to a cable channel not named ESPN.

Wow! Big News! 3 more at-large bids is good news for Iowa State. I can't wait for our reemergence into March Madness in 2011.

I honestly think that he doesn't even believe it, but makes ridiculously optimistic comments just to sit back and laugh as everyone else goes insane about it.

This is pretty much the best news that could have come out about the tourney. Not only did they not ruin the whole thing by expanding to 96, but they made it so all games will be shown without an extra package. Adding the 3 teams was probably the right thing to have it at least even with all of the #1 seeds.

I still don't know how Duke got to play the play-in winner this year when they were the #3 overall, I think that's why they won the championship.:jimlad:

It's highly unlikely that any of the major over the air networks would agree to partner with each other, and if CBS had the best offer, moneywise, the only real broadcast partner option on your list would be Versus, which is not on all basic cable packages. TBS/TNT are.

I believe that Versus is now owned by the same company that owns NBC. I doubt that this would work either. I'm kind of surprised that this wasn't done by a company with more options to do it by themselves like ABC or NBC. ABC obviously has the ESPN family and NBC has USA as well as a glutiny of news channels that they were happy to use for the olympics.
