any reason to worry about what Gene may have done while at ISU or is this all on the boosters

Holy crap, if this is the case, we'd be able to replace Criner for the "King Bonehead" title...

Honestly, I doubt it. Probably one of the reasons why Chizik wanted out so bad - ISU wouldn't "do what it takes" to win championships...

Seriously. Who knows?

EDIT: I can see that this post may be misconstrued, so just to make it plain, this is a slight on Chiz, not on ISU. ISU is on the high ground in my mind.

Well, did we get any recruits that noone thought we had a chance to get? Not really. 1/3 of Chiziks recruits didnt even make it to campus and another chunk of them were JuCos who are already gone.

No, no, what I meant is that maybe Gene wanted to do things that ISU didn't want. I don't necessarily think that, but who knows?

I definitely was not saying that fishy stuff was going on at ISU.

Gotcha.

Even if Geno wanted to do so at ISU, I am not sure if he could find the guys with the checkbooks to make it happen.

I have a feeling that he knew what the "culture" at Auburn was all about when he took that job though. He got the job in the first place because he had an in with the good old boys. Those good old boys write the checks.

Yeah, that seems fair in light of what is coming out. I hope that Auburn gets hammered by this.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops, who also recruited Newton out of Blinn, said he saw "nothing at all" out of the ordinary during that process.

"Our recruitment of Cameron could not have been better, or was just fine," Stoops said. "I didn't notice anything and none of our coaches did as we were recruiting him."

Well that sets the record straight. We can all be confident now that everything was on the up-and-up. :jimlad:

Well, maybe he's telling the truth and OU did nothing wrong in his recruitment. And, maybe that's why Newton is guiding Auburn to a vacated national title rather than Oklahoma.

Gene Chizik calling Auburn his dream job is hilarious. It holds about as much weight as some loser who couldn't get laid in a whorehouse calling the first chick to jump in the sack with him his dream girl. Yes.... even if it was this woman....

You guys will all have to excuse rebecacy. This topic is near and dear to him. He felt he was privileged when Chizik came to him asking for booster recruiting money several times during his tenure in Ames. He thought he was the only one Chizik would ask such a high favor from. It has hurt him a lot. He even turned the spotlight off on his Chizik poster when he went to bed tonight...

If the recruitment "could not have been better" you think they would have landed him. Isn't getting the recruit the ultimate goal?

Yep, rumor gone wild -- and it does have Alabama written all over it. Some people are so easily led. But it does show the power of mass hysteria on Twitter and how the right, well organized group, can sway the masses. If Gene did something wrong, I hope he fry's. Knowing a bit about SEC boosters, I strongly believe that if "Auburn" did anything wrong (which we do not yet know), it was done without any of the coaches having any clue. We all know who drives the bus at Auburn.

As a coach you are responsible for your program. Period. End of discussion.

As rebecacy alluded to, there's one guy calling the shots at Auburn (or "driving the bus" as he stated), and it certainly isn't the head football coach. Basically there's 2 choices down there - 1) get on the bus, sit down and shut up; or 2) buck the system and get run over by said bus.

I think by recruitment he meant negotiations and they probably couldn't have been better. At the time OU just couldn't afford Cam's asking price as they were already up against their boosters "salary cap".
