Artest Suspended

The one correct thing in that statement is that it was a nasty elbow that deserved a suspension. Elbows happen, but typically within the flow of the game. This was nowhere near a basketball play. It was a violent act by a person with a well documented violent history. Enough is enough. Boot the guy before he does any more damage.

And he was handed the longest elbow related suspension in the history of the NBA.

I think to get the full story we need to look at the Metta World Peace situation through the eyes of Taiwanese animation.

Metta World Peace of Los Angeles Lakers suspended 7 games for elbow - ESPN Los Angeles

What a crock of ****. Three 7+ game suspensions over the course of his career. How many second chances does this idiot get?

This is one of the big reasons I don't watch the NBA anymore. There are very few teams that come out and actually play basketball anymore. It's become the WWE of professional sports, imo. It's all about flash and pumping your chest, the rules of the game are secondary.

If you don't watch the NBA anymore than how do you know what the game is like? Hmm..

Scoring is down, defense is improved, tons of stars in the league, fighting is becoming less and less frequent. It's a great product but some people still make the same tired excuses for not watching the NBA that haven't been relevant in a decade.

If people don't watch the NBA anymore, they are missing out. I think the NBA postseason is by far the best postseason in sports. You can't fluke your way to a title in the NBA, and it's usually a several season process of watching a team get closer each year then finally getting over the hump.

boot him? come on now. I don't like Artest at all but the suspension is fine and anything more would be over the top.

No doubt he meant to throw the elbow, I just think he meant to throw it in the body to get Harden off him and connected to the head. Regardless it shouldn't happen and deserves a suspension. Normal player would get 3 games but he's not a normal player and gets 7 games.

Should Rodman have been kicked out of the league for all he did? Kicking a photographer in the nuts?

If it had been anyone else I would agree that the suspension was appropriate. But consider the resume:

Metta World Peace: A compendium of misdeeds - latimes.com

He's a threat to himself, other players, coaches, and fans, and he's driven that point home repeatedly throughout his career. Behavior like that shouldn't have a place in the NBA.

Who's is Artest?

Sounds like a made up name to me.

Seriously though, Harden still hasn't been cleared to play. He got hit in the head THAT hard. I think Metta probably should have been done for the season.

To those that wanted him suspended for the rest of the year, that could have been anywhere from 4 to 28 games. 4 wouldn't have been enough, 28 would have been too much. They had to pick an actual number. Is 7 a little on the low side? Yes, but it's still pretty severe.

I will agree, while I havent watched as much as this shortened season, you can bet come playoff time I wont miss a game. There is def something special about the NBA playoffs. Its almost like everygame is a championship game. Its awesome. On top of that, watching live playoff bball is so incredible. Ive gotten to go to the Lakers, Bulls, and Thunder so far, its redic.

He needs to be thankful that he is playing for the NBA's chosen team, the lakers. If he were still in Indianapolis, he would be done for the rest of the year, and part of next year...Don't even get me started on if he were still with the Rockets or Kings.

This. People think Tim Donaghy was crooked but David Stern is even more crooked. He tried to get Chris Paul on the Lakers now this. I hope to god that Durant gets the MVP so Stern has to go to OKC to present him and the OKC can boo this crooked ****** ****** like nobody has been booed before.

OKC should kiss his feet for helping to kill the sonics.

The league actually vetoed the trade to LA. If he wanted CP3 with the Lakers, it would have happened. But he wanted to keep CP3 in New Orleans or get more out of the trade so the league could market the team better.

You don't watch or pay attention to the NBA do you?

Watch this. And than guess how many games he was suspended for while playing for a crappy team.

Jason Smith's Flagrant Foul on Blake Griffin (ENTIRE PLAY) - YouTube

I understand your point, but I don't think the two plays are at all comparable. In one a player lowers his shoulder and takes out a guy breaking to the basket. Contact was shoulder to shoulder. Definitely flagrant, but not life threatening. In the other the contact was a full blown wind up elbow to the side of the head. Very dangerous. There is a reason in football they encourage shoulder to shoulder contact, but disallow and punish head to head contact even though both heads are encased in solid plastic high tech protective gear.
