I do wish Iowa St would step up their scheduling. Getting into good tournaments is likely difficult, but scheduled games should be possible.

I wish we would really try to cut the >225 RPI and get 1-2 tough away games each year depending on where the Iowa game is.

if you could kick in the $800k or so the athletic department would miss out on from 2 home games maybe they'll take you up on your idea?

This.

Additionally there's a reason its hard to get more of those 100-200 instead of the 200+. All the big programs want that because thats a great way to game the RPI system (any top program will likely be picking up a win from a 100+ or 200+ team, but 100-200 looks a lot better to a computer than 200+). So since theyre in demand, they cost more to bring in.

Didn't we play one less non conference game than several other teams in any case?

If so we needn't play a big away game instead of a home game. It could have been in addition to what we played this year, for example.

First of all, we usually play 1 good away game each year (iowa, byu, Michigan) so it's only a 1 game difference.

Second, I understand that, I just think it would be good preparation for the conf schedule. Especially if we don't start getting into better tournaments.

I would like to see more scheduling alliances with the P-5 conferences. Heck, even scheduling something with the Big East wouldn't be so bad.

I admit, I had not heard of UAB to Valley (or any other conference movement — the no-football aspect makes sense).

Not that geography makes sense anymore, but is that the best/closest place to go? If the football element is out, that probably rules out Sun Belt, which would be a lateral move for basketball.

The closest conference for UAB to move to would be the A - sun, which has only has 8 or 9 teams in it with Florida Gulf Coast being the most nationally relevant team in it. The Sun Belt may have non football members, but I'm not sure on that. I think UALR is in the conference without playing football but I'm not sure

I'm in full agreement with you on taking out teams like MVSU and Lamar off the schedule. We don't need to set up a schedule like Kansas has every year but they could at least cut 1 or 2 RPI killers for a Mac team with an RPI that will be somewhere near the 100s instead

Why is everyone so anxious to have us playing top 25 teams every week? We played 5 tourney teams in the non Conf this year and our non conf RPI was top 10. It doesn't matter. We play a hard enough conf schedule. Gonzalo played no one and got a 2 seed. Ku played the toughest scheudle in the nation and got same 2 seed. It makes no difference.

Gonzaga didn't play nobody in non-conf.......wins over UCLA, St. Joes, Georgia, St. Johns, and Washington State. Their only loss was to Arizona, and that went to overtime.

Here was KU's non-conf. They beat Michigan State, Florida, Georgetown, Utah, and Tennessee. They dropped a bad one to Temple and got DOGSTOMPED by Kentucky.

After comparing though, I would say Gonzaga didn't play anyone compared to KU. The Zaga's get so much bias.

Odds are good that we will play a high-major team in non-con next year in the Big 12/SEC Challenge after getting home games the past two years though.

A-Sun still seems like a lateral move.

Atlantic 10 is the only other one I can see that'd be a step-up from basketball standpoint. But UAB would be geographic outlier (even more so than VCU, Richmond and Davidson).
