Additional note on Big 12/SEC: Since it's played Jan. 30, what is the chance they would set the 10 reps from SEC, plus the game sites (for venue-planning purposes), but wait to announce the matchups until maybe early in conference play?

That seems like the smart way to do it. It'd make it more likely to have competitive games across the board, and not completely base it on preseason expectations.

KU-UK is probably going to happen anyway, and Texas-Florida seems like a good possibility. But there was a lot of balance in each league after the two top dogs.

That's not a bad idea but I doubt they do it that way. I'm not sure how much flexibility you gain from it either. You'd still have to set which 5 from each conference are at home. So I guess you'd have a pool of 5 Big 12 road teams to pair with the 5 SEC home teams and vice versa. I also think they would want some of the road teams' fans to buy tickets and make plans to travel earlier.

Re: Emerald Coast Classic — this comment will sound drenched in irony considering what happened the other day, but how did UAB get one of the "marquee" slots? The other three are from power-5 conferences, which I think is typically the pattern for these types of on-campus/neutral tournaments.

I'm guessing ISU gets Chicago State and Chattanooga for the on-campus sites.

Well, last years tournament was three power schools and middle Tennessee state. So maybe it's like the Bahamas tournament and they always have a team from conference usa no matter what. Totally made that up. And I was thinking Chattanooga and bama state.

Trying to figure out our known schedule for 2015-2016:

Nov. 13 Colorado
Nov. 19-24 (2 of the following teams Chattanooga, Alabama State, Chicago St, Jacksonville St)
Nov. 27 - 1st Round Emerald Coast Classic (UAB, Illinois, Virginia Tech)
Nov. 28 - 2nd Round Emerald Coast Classic
Dec. 11 - Iowa
Dec. 19 - UNI
Jan. 30 - Big XII-SEC Challenge

Are there any other known games? There will be 4 or 5 other non-conference games. Hopefully, we can fill it with another high major opponent and some games against decent mid-major competition with RPIs better than 150 (South Dakota St, Illinois St, Central Michigan, Green Bay, Evansville are some midwestern teams that I would like to see us try to schedule that would actually help our RPI).

There's going to be a lot of "schedule jamming" to get to 13 non-conference games (assuming we have 13 instead of 12) because of when locked-in dates fall, unless we have the Emerald 2 home games as late as possible. That Nov. 19-28 would eat up 10 days. Assuming no games between Iowa & UNI, and Big 12 season needs to begin Jan. 2, since Big12/SEC is in late January.

We can play 1 between Colorado and the first Emerald games, 3 between the end of Emerald and Iowa, and one after UNI before Big 12 play. If you look at the calendar it's really not that cramped; two games per week at the most plus the usual breaks.

Assuming your dates are correct (and they look to be), here’s a guess on open slots:

Nov. 13 vs. Colorado
Nov. 16-18
Nov. 19-24 Chicago State*
Nov. 19-24 Chattanooga*
Nov. 27 vs. Virginia Tech*
Nov. 28 vs. Illinois/UAB*
Dec. 5
Dec. 7
Dec. 11 Iowa
Dec. 19 vs. UNI
Dec. 26
Dec. 30
(Jan. 2 - Big 12 season begins*)
Jan. 30 - at Arkansas/LSU* Big XII-SEC Challenge
*Guess/Assumption

I’m guessing most of those will be cupcake home games (especially during student break in December) but there’s a possibility for a legitimate home-and-home (I doubt we’ll see any more neutral games — already have Colorado, UNI and two in Emerald).

Yeah that works too. Main point is that we still have room for five more non-con games to fill the schedule. I'd love to see a major conference home-and-home within driving distance for ISU fans. Nebraska, Minnesota, Marquette, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Missouri are all possibilities for this coming year. Illinois would be on the list but for the Emerald tournament. Creighton is probably not realistic. And I already mentioned my preference for a DePaul home-and-home in this thread; we could fill their arena.

For example an Iowa State @ Wisconsin game in Madison on Saturday, Dec. 5 seems to fit nicely into that schedule you posted.

With the team ISU has coming back, schedule a home and home with a high major opponent, and play on the road to start.

It's looking like a decent enough schedule.
I'm sure that the 2 home games for the Emerald Coast Classic won't be very impressive, but that's just part of being in the event.

It doesn't bring tons of excitement, but it's getting better than what we had for quite a while.

Agree, one more game of some intrigue would help ... the rest are likely to be home-game fillers. We may not be able to land a huge opportunity just yet (I hope that's coming).

I wouldn't mind a regional home and home, I've wanted Minnesota for years, and Marquette and Missouri seem like possibilities. I'd pass on Nebraska and Northwestern (I would take something like a high-profile Pac-12 over that). DePaul doesn't excite me, but you're probably correct that fans could make it a neutral-home game.

let's just give up on this idea of a high major home-home. it just isn't going to happen. if hoiberg and ollie, best buddies, can't get a deal done, that should tell you something.

big12/SEC, Iowa, UNI, tourney (IL/VaTech), Colorado (neutral). that will be plenty.

Not really fair to say. Like I posted earlier I'm pretty sure a UConn/Iowa State home-and-home was coming until the Sweet 16 gave us that game last year. Then UConn didn't want a rematch this fall. Maybe this year though, I don't know.

A slight improvement, I agree. If we get as high-level as possible in the B12-SEC Challenge, and could maybe snag a surprise non-league addition, it'll be an upgrade.
