Re: Rashad Vaughn

I don't check this thread daily and barely weekly. What's the latest?

Re: Rashad Vaughn

poster #1 "When has a top ten recruit picked a school like Iowa State when he wasn't from said school's home state over the home school and the blue bloods, it doesn't happen, not cleanly"

voice of reason : "
I think suggesting he's looking to take money because he's seriously considering a program that's in a neighboring state that's in better shape than ours is pretty darn stupid."

so, not many money comments but it was thrown out there

Umm, you missed like 10 others.

A couple months back I spoke to Darren Dearring, the father of Wisconsin freshman Riley Dearring and Vaughn's former AAU teammate. He started to talk about the "Big 3" and when Vaughn became the subject (acted as if he knew Vaughn well), he seemed to think Minnesota wasn't even being considered. Darren said that Vaughn has been taking money from, and was implying that it is A LOT of money from a few schools. The schools he said he knew Vaughn is taking money from are North Carolina, UNLV, and Iowa State.

Again I was told this information. I'm not sure if Mr. Dearring is a reliable source as he was kind of oblivious to the recruitment of Jones and Travis (said they were both locks for Michigan St. when I believe both of them took MSU of their lists.)

I hope this is false and he is still considering Minnesota.

Go Gophers!

That's quite the claim. I'd believe it, but still quite the claim.

Don't get me wrong, I agree on that as well. Though, he did seem to know Vaughn well, he said he was close to the family.

I believe you and it wouldn't shock me if it's true, but naturally I'm going to be a little skeptical. Some people just like to act like they know something to be fact when they really don't. Not sure if he's one of those people or not since I don't know him, but if he thought Tyus and Reid were locks to MSU then he might be. Not going to take his word for it even if he does know Rashad and his family.

EDIT: In case he is right though and isn't just making assumptions based on some weak "evidence", I'm glad Minnesota isn't one of the teams he listed as paying him. Would be ecstatic to get him, but don't want to do it like that.

And yet it doesn't shock me, I just refuse to believe that the top wing in America has Iowa State and UNLV as his top two, is not from either state and they're doing it clean. Not sure why UNC needs to pay him, Vaughn has said that's his dream school and they're a blue blood, even a crappy coach should be able to get players to UNC, Kentucky, Kansas etc based on the schools name. I'm not saying Vaughn's shady, but would anyone really be surprised that in three years when he's gone, wherever he ends up is under investigation?

Wouldn't be that surprised. We've seen it this year with the Whitehead recruitment. I hope it's not true but I could see it...

If I'm a big time basketball player, I'm going for the money. Your career can fizzle, or you may never pan out. It's not illegal to get paid, it just screws up your eligibility. That's not a big risk in the long run, especially if you know how to hide the money. You'll make the league if you're good enough anyway.

If I'm a decent basketball player, I'm going to the best academic school I can get into.

If I'm a marginal player, I'm happy to get a scholarship.

It's not illegal to get paid- but it is dishonest. If a guy is a big time player- just do things right and things will work out fine. Grabbing a little side cash a year too early is not the way to go.

It depends on what you consider side cash. If it's a few hundred bucks, then I agree. If you're getting $200,000 like Cam Newton's dad, then you're stupid for not taking free money from somebody.

Sorry Ames isn't that close to home, it's a solid 200 miles, you'll never convince me that it makes sense, they may not be cheating, but the cloud of suspicion will be there. But lets be real now that the slick weasel in Lexington is back in the race I bet he ends up there, UK has a habit of signing guys like Vaughn in the spring, so I guess were argueing over two schools that he's probably not going attend
LOL at 200 miles being far.

Pathetic bunch down in that goofer hole. I love the comment from some numbnuts guaranteeing that Hoiberg will be coaching in the NBA within 2 years.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I really think they're just taking out they're frustrations on not getting the other two. Now they know they're out of the race for Vaughn and they're grasping for answers as to why he would consider us. Not commit. Consider.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

As far as that Gopher Hole guy who's buddy supposedly knows all this about recruits, he is all wet. Even Reid Travis' family didn't know where he was going until the very end. The family member I know thought for sure it was Duke but when Reid came to him and said he really liked Stanford (for all the right reasons) he told him to go for it. This was just days before Reid announced.

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I'm starting to honestly feel Rashad will go here. I just think he sees the big picture.
