Dan McCarney was the best thing ever to happen to cyclone football....before mccarney went over to icity to beat hayden and the hawks ending a zero for 15 stretch, nobody and I mean nobody gave a rats A** about cyclone football.
Without Danny Mac who started the ball rolling on our facilities upgrades aka expanding the Jacobson bldg., we would still be winning one or two games a year consistently...aka the criner and walden years.
I do know one thing from my experience around ISU fans and that's ...Thee MESS er Corey messingham has to GO or a whole lot of season tickets holders will be throwing their renewals into the trash can...
This season is an unmitigated disaster and someone has to pay for it, and the fan base has already decided its thee mess of an off coordinator.
Go Cyclones beat the 'Pokes!
I don't follow the recruiting as closely as others, but this point has been mentioned in several threads, that ISU recruiting classes under Rhoads have been consistently ranked at the bottom of the Big 12. But there is a relative aspect to these rankings...
Say on a scale of 0-100, is ISU's situation more like the case where the top-ranked school gets a score of 100, middle of the pack scores 92, and ISU scores 85, or is it more like the case where the top-ranked school gets a score of 100, middle of the pack scores 85, and ISU scores 50?
In the former case, the talent disparity is probably not so great and good coaching could get ISU to finish in the middle of the pack as far as conference wins go. In the latter case, the talent disparity is likely too great for ISU to get more than 2-3 conference wins.
I don't understand this sentiment either. When ISU hired CPR, there was uncertainty about conference alignment and revenue, which probably limited what could be paid for salary. With the current TV deal and (supposed) conference statbility, there is significantly more revenue available to lure in a coach.
Wasn't Johnny Orr the highest or nearly highest paid MBB coach, at least for a short while, after ISU signed him?

Oh I get it - if you praise Mac and give him credit, you're considered "negative." But you criticize Mac and diminish what the man accomplished, that's fine...because it puts the current program in a better light...yeah, I get it now.It may be a blessing if some of you didn't renew your tickets. We'd be better off without the negativity.
Is Austin an OC?
Oh, but never mind the woeful bowl losses to powerhouses Rutgers and Tulsa, where ISU looked almost disinterested in front of legions of Cyclone faithful. Mac's teams were proud to play in bowls. Also, you don't find the last couple of games of 2012 and the season so far in 2013 to be alarming? Really?

I think he can make them exactly what he has shown. 6-7 wins at best with low seasons like this one. I don't think he has what it takes to make them a contender in the big 12.
Honest question. Will CPR ever win 8-10 games at Iowa State or do we have to be realistic with abilities and realize that 6 wins may be his ceiling? My buddy and I were debating this earlier today and I think someday Rhoads may have a good season where these upsets and passion result in some real momentum for our program and that the upsets against ranked teams aren't just flukes but an actual representation of a good football team.
Maybe 2015 is my guess, until then I'm just going to try and be realistic and hope to see improvement. However, I will not settle with 3 wins. What bothered me most with his press conference today was when he mentioned, "No Iowa State is not past the blow out losses at this point, referring to OU and Utah in 2010" That really bothers me. No coach should settle for 50+ point losses and ever deem it "acceptable" and he pulled the "This team is young excuse, expect bad losses"
Anyways, just something to ponder. I think he is right for Iowa state but he is going to need to make offensive changes at the end of the year for me to have any confidence. He mentioned today that the offense has been quote "God awful, terrible and that side of the ball is where we need to improve most" but if Messingham isn't gone then how serious is he really with moving us forward in terms of offense?
How will you 'not settle'. What actions will you take besides ***** and moan on a message board?
Also, what else could he say?
Rhoads: "We are beyond blowout losses as a team her at Iowa State."
Reporter: "Coach, you just lost by 64."
Rhoads: "What do you mean."
I'd put $20 on an 8 win season next year right now.
I think many feel the recent recruiting is a big concern. I hear a lot of people talking about all the talent on this team. Is there really that much talent throughout the roster?I'm extremely confident in CPR. Looking at our youth and recent recruiting, there is no reason to believe that the future is bright over the next few years. If we don't get back into bowl contention and perhaps better over the next couple of years, then this kind of talk may be warranted. But this kind of talk right now is idiotic.
Yep. I also forgot to mention that Brent Curvey is on the Grandview staff.

People love talking about talent but if we had real talent we wouldn't EVER lose to an FCS team, get blown out by 64 points, be 1-5, etc.
Real talent wouldn't EVER lose to an FCS school?? Tell that to Michigan.
Michigan entered the game as the No. 5-ranked team in both the AP Poll and the Coaches' Poll. Media outlets projected the team as favorites to win the Big Ten conference, as well as to contend for a national championship.[SUP][1][/SUP] Michigan featured a strong senior class of offensive tackle Jake Long, tailback Mike Hart, and quarterback Chad Henne, each of whom had decided to stay in school rather than declare eligibility for the NFL Draft. The players attributed their decision to several factors, such as Michigan having lost their last three games to rival Ohio State and the Wolverines' streak of three consecutive bowl losses. The three also desired to finish their college careers on a high note. Mark Schlabach of ESPN.com stated that "[the trio], along with receivers Mario Manningham and Adrian Arrington, gives Michigan what could potentially be one of the most explosive offenses in college football".[SUP][19][/SUP] Prior to the season, the team named Hart and Long as captains, in addition to linebacker Shawn Crable, a fifth-year senior.[SUP][20][/SUP]
