Re: Herman to Ohio State?

Completey possible Herman's seat was warm. The offense hasn't been a point producing machine. The only reason we have a higher scoring average this year is because of two OTs. We heard Rhoads say that West got more touches by his urging. We haven't seen a QB progress, we have yet to see a real threat develop at WR.

I would have like to see Herman stay for another year to see if he could get the offense to click but fact is, there were a lot of questions about this offense. 9th in the Big 12 in scoring will not get it done every year.

I don't see how Herman's seat was warm. I thought he did an incredible job with the talent he had. This was the best offense that ISU has had in the past 7-8 years by far. All the posters talking about the lack of points this year are overlooking the turnover issues that this team has had. This offense was able to move the ball extremely well, especially considering they started a freshman qb. The future of the offense was looking extremely bright with Barnett at qb. I highly doubt that he was forced out by any means. Urban Meyer is a damn good football coach, and in his press conference he stated that he planned on putting together the best football staff in all of college football. I'm guessing he has a good idea on what Herman brings to the table, and he wouldn't hire him if he didn't think he was capable of having a lot of success.

Media will NEVER look at it that way.

"OSU & Meyer steal Herman from Iowa State"

Big fish eating smaller

No it doesn't. People will still think "yep, OSU getting who they want"

Right. And they'll run with the "Ohio State has former coordinators as position coaches" to indicate the depth of their coaching talent, or however they'll say it.

It's an old story, just with our names in it this time.

Maybe this is an opportunity to get someone better.

Yes.

Count me in the 'Meh' camp. I suppose I would have like to to keep him but Herman never did anything here that made me think he was special by any means. I'm actually a little excited to see who CPR gets. Frankly, this is a MUCH better job than it was 3 years ago!!

Exactly right and Paul knows exactly what he needs after three years in the league.

I just hope the new OC takes about the same time Wally did to turn things around.

This move scares the crap out of me.

Its not so much how good Herman was.. its the whole changing the system again.

The best way to look at it by far. This is what I'm thinking. I didn't see anything out of Herman that made me think the guy was irreplaceable. Is it the ideal situation? No, but hopefully things get settled and JB doesn't have to deal with the coaching changes that AA had to.

COMPLETE sky is falling speculation here, but maybe Herman knew that Rhoads was leaving so he wanted to ensure he had a job lined up... AGAIN, just thinking out loud.

Are we sure Urban will be OC at Ohio State? Maybe he wants more time for his health and family and is passing along the nitty-gritty along with the title of offensive coordinator to Herman. FootballScoop didn't say what position Herman is getting at tOSU, just that he was going there. Maybe this actually is a step up for Herman?
Urban Meyer isn't that great of an OC. Dan Mullens was the guy that made him look good, did you guys see Florida his last year there without Mullens? If Meyer is hiring Herman to run the offense Ohio State won't be much better than 9-3 every year.

It seems the Coach Herman was told to move on. Contract was up and there are some pretty strong signs that CPR wasn't all too happy with him during the season.

This would be the part that makes sense to me, if true. But then I don't know why Urban Meyer would want him, either.

I'm more puzzled than anything. If Rhoads wanted to be rid of him, why did Meyer want him. If Rhoads wanted him to stay, why would he take a demotion and give up the chance to actually run an offense next year?

Maybe he himself realized he needed a little more baking? That would make sense, but I seriously doubt it.

One of the more unusual coaching moves I can remember (unless he was on the hot seat - I didn't realize it was even room temperature!)

Or maybe it was because Herman's contract was up and Rhoads said he wasn't coming back.

Okie State has been through like 10 offensive coordinators the last few years, and it hasn't slowed them down.

Herman 100% the QB coach at OSU,

Urban will not be the OC. They are looking at LSU's Studwara and Clemson's Morris

Statistics disagree. I'm not going to beat up on TH (I'd be glad if he were still here) but PR will find an acceptable replacement.

We may find out based on how fast a replacement is named. Granted, any replacement may still be coaching until the bowls are over.

Say what? So at Utah? First 2 years at Florida?
