Instability is rarely a good thing. I'm pretty nervous about the future suddenly.

So what? Like I asked before, what is it about Herman's performance at ISU that makes this some crushing blow? PR will find a talented replacement.

sarcasm... of course no one outside of iowa gives a **** about an ISU OC who becomes the QB coach of Ohio state. thats what i'm saying

I am on your side... I dont think this will have much of an effect on iowa state as a football program much at all

He is an offensive coach and will want to learn under a great offensive mind. Urban Meyer provides that. Paul Rhoads is a defensive guy. Obvious to say yes to Urban Meyer on this one

Re: Herman to Ohio State?

You didn't read the restrictions!

Even so, it just doesn't pass the smell test. Can you name the last BCS OC (from a good program, not a "hot seat") that took a QB coaching job?

Completey possible Herman's seat was warm. The offense hasn't been a point producing machine. The only reason we have a higher scoring average this year is because of two OTs. We heard Rhoads say that West got more touches by his urging. We haven't seen a QB progress, we have yet to see a real threat develop at WR.

I would have like to see Herman stay for another year to see if he could get the offense to click but fact is, there were a lot of questions about this offense. 9th in the Big 12 in scoring will not get it done every year.

Whether there was a nudge from CPR or not, this will not catch him flat-footed. He'll have a list of good candidates ready and will get us a quality OC. Lack of continuity sucks and it will take some mind easing of recruits to keep them happy, but I'm less worried about losing Herman than I would have been about losing Wally. This is a set back, but far from a "sky is falling" moment imo.

Sometimes I thought Herman was really good, then he would look like a complete fool for a few weeks. It's like he had to get in a good flow. I don't see anythign we are doing that pretty much everyone else isn't doing right now, so he is by no means irreplacable.

Also interesting at times I felt like PR was vaguely critical of him and did not complement him that much. After one game last year he said "Tom called a nice game, but I think he listened to me this time." Which I found an odd comment. I don't know, I feel like PR was a little disappointed with him at times. Could be just me. Who knows.

It seems the Coach Herman was told to move on. Contract was up and there are some pretty strong signs that CPR wasn't all too happy with him during the season.

Good post, it seemed a working but not perfect relationship.

Compared to other various ISU hiring, firing, leavings this isn't very shocking.

Count me in the 'Meh' camp. I suppose I would have like to to keep him but Herman never did anything here that made me think he was special by any means. I'm actually a little excited to see who CPR gets. Frankly, this is a MUCH better job than it was 3 years ago!!

Are we sure Urban will be OC at Ohio State? Maybe he wants more time for his health and family and is passing along the nitty-gritty along with the title of offensive coordinator to Herman. FootballScoop didn't say what position Herman is getting at tOSU, just that he was going there. Maybe this actually is a step up for Herman?
