New Episode of Reaction Time

Enjoy this week's episode. Ben and I give our thoughts of this weekend! Then we start to look ahead slightly to NCAA's.

I think for next weeks' episode it would be fun to do like half a mailbag episode. Go through brackets/preview Detroit but also get some questions from you guys about NCAA's! Just let me know :)

Electric Scooters

Greetings all.

With the surge in gas prices, I have been considering getting an electric scooter to buzz around town on vs my gas guzzling diesel truck. Anyone have any recommendations? I have been looking at the new Segway GT series, but man those are expensive.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bruce Weber's hair

The below comment is from an article from the Wichita Eagle. It is funny how KU was alleged to have 5 level 1 NCAA rules violations and yet nothing has happened to them. I'm not an insider so I can't say for certain one way or the other but it makes you think.

“We did it the right way,” Weber said. “We did it with our guys graduating. ... I’m on the NCAA ethics committee. And on the meetings, I was told that they were going to take care of the people in the FBI stuff. So I told somebody, ‘I’m going to grow my hair until something happens.
Obviously, it’s still growing. That’s the sad part of our business. Lon Kruger told me the other day, think about all the guys in the FBI thing. They are all in the NCAA Tournament except one. So I’m just proud of what I’ve done.”

True origins of basketball

So now it appears that there is serious question whether Dr. James Naismith actually invented basketball or borrowed the idea from a 19 year old in Herkimer, NY.
That would be appropriate if the KU court is named after someone who cheated his way into history.

New TV Advice

So, looking at pulling the trigger on a new TV finally. Currently have a 52" Samsung from probably 2009.

I'm planning on a 4k in either the 65" or maybe 75" range. Still trying to debate between QLED vs OLED and debating if I should go for screen size or a higher end model. I rarely watch movies in the dark so the true black of the OLED isn't necessarily a major selling point for me, and I've been a fan of Samsung TVs for a while. Main uses are mainly just cable, Netflix, maybe some light gaming if I ever run across a PS5

Any have thoughts or opinions?

Breaking a Lease in Iowa Question

Kind of a specific question I can't find a good answer to on the internet, hoping either someone who is a landlord or has been in the situation can help me out:

Moved out of state and broke my lease early, per Iowa law I have continued to pay rent while Land lord is searching for a new tenant. I am paid up through March currently, and landlord has filled the unit in the last few days my question is 2 things:

Am I entitled to a prorated portion of March rent back, as landlord is now being double paid for days 10-31 of March. (me + new tenants prorated rent)

Am I entitled to my security deposit back under Iowa law as I am not behind on rent? Less any itemized damage they send me in writing.

Thanks in advance.

Abu Sama (2023 ATH - SEP)

I looked for a thread on this kid, but didn’t see one. Dropped a 24’1” long jump last night. It was his 2nd jump I believe, jumping 24’ on his 1st attempt. I’ve seen it being mentioned as top 5 in the nation this year, but I’m not sure what age level that is, because I’m pretty sure it’s close to top 5 in the world for U18:

He’s very explosive as a running back, but damn…kid would easily get a track scholarship and possibly an Olympian at some point. Crazy numbers for a junior in high school.

Any Experience with Top Dressing a Lawn

I know the City of Ankeny will reimburse for 50% of the cost of top dressing a yard as part of a Soil Quality Restoration program. This is from newer construction where the soils are not good because the top soil is stripped off as part of the building/grading process. My house was built in 2016 so it would qualify and I have been working really hard to get the yard looking good. Has anyone had experience topdressing the soil with compost? Was it worth the money? I got a quote and if they reimburse I am willing to do it, but don't want to throw my money away. The quote is for 1/2" of compost spread out and includes aeration and overseeding.

If it can get to Friday, it will be a good sign for Iowa State's run in KC

NCAA Tournament Brackets and Draws

I know @theshadow is much better at setting this all up and making it look nice. But I figured we’d start a thread for our draws once brackets are released. Brackets will start being released at 5pm CST I believe. It’s go time!

Anyone seen The Batman (2022)? - Spoilers...

Just got home after that and all I can say is....

...that was not a good movie. Pattinson was great and the cinematography was fantastic.

However, the last fifth or so of that movie derailed it entirely. I don't see how everyone is rating this so highly.

The dialogue was forced and forgettable, and the cheated in a lot of scenes. I laughed out loud at the semi trailer forming a perfect ramp, and Batman solves riddles faster than I can do a wordle.

Also, the mayor-elect swimming around perfectly right after being shot was horrendously bad.

One of you is going to have to explain to me why everyone else thinks this is good because i just don't see it

Traveling to Tahoe...needs ideas

Sun Country is having a huge deal on flights. Booked roundtrip tickets to Lake Tahoe/Reno for $128 round trip. That's unheard of.

I've been to Tahoe but it's been a number of years. Better half has never been. Need ideas where is best to stay for those who haven't been there before. Good restaurants, good views, outdoor stuff but not skiing (going early October).

Thanks!
