win what? a few games here and there?

Hey, if you want to argue in favor of Iowa State abandoning honor and integrity, go right ahead, that's your right.

But don't ******* tell me I HAVE to abandon them. It's my right to desire integrity and honor in my alma mater.

He could come in and lose and then we'd have an even worse situation. Also, you're not going to build a stable program with a guy like BG. He'll be gone win or lose in 3-4 seasons. We'd have to go through another coaching hire.

I understand where you are going with that. I just fear that if we "stay the course" with a guy who hasn't had a winning season in the 4 years he has been at ISU that the only course we will be running is what team to cheer for come March because our teams season is over prematurely..... again.

I think at some point you have to take risks.

The stability/keep GMAC crowd has an answer for everything....

Let's hire a hot mid major coach? A: Well that is what GMAC was so why change.

Should we go after an assistant from a big time program? A: They wouldn't come to a program like ISU and if they wanted to we couldn't afford them.

Maybe we should go after BG? A: He may be a great coach but he has had trouble in his past which surely means he will be a disaster here.

Maybe we should call Steve Lavin? A: His hair has too much oil on it. He would never "fit" in here.

Maybe we should call Jay Wright just to feel his interest and see what prospects he thinks would be good candidates? A: He will never take the job, we can't afford him, he would never go to a program like ISU, why do we care who he thinks would be good candidates, etc....

Who would be a good candidate for ISU's job? A: We have a coach, GMAC won't be fired, give GMAC more time, GMAC's contract isn't up, Nobody better then GMAC will want the job, We can't get anyone better, etc.....

ENOUGH EXCUSES!!!!!!!!!!

There are only 2 explanations for the excuses....

1. You love GMAC too much to admit he has failed and needs to be replaced.

2. You are afraid of change and the risk of making a change.

The bottom line is that both of those explanations are flawed. #1 you should never love a coach more then the program. A great guy that loses is still a loser at the end of the day. Being a great guy doesn't guarantee success. #2 if you aren't willing to take risks and make changes and do bold things then you need to just be satisfied with the results that you are seeing right now. Expect more losing seasons, mid major recruits, player defections, cellar finishes in the BIG XII, and an empty Hilton.

I'm a numbers guy. Let's see how GMac compares to other coaches who were fired or forced to resign in the last few years:

STILL COACHING
Greg McDermott, Iowa State, 58-67 after almost 4 seasons (all losing records)

FIRED
Wayne Morgan, Iowa State, 55-39 after 3 seasons (one NCAA, one NIT)
Dave Leitao, Virginia, 63-60 after 4 seasons (one NCAA, one NIT, one CBI)
Sean Sutton, Okie State, 39-29 after 2 seasons (two NIT berths)
Brad Soderberg, St. Louis, 80-74 after 5 seasons (two NIT berths)
Quinn Snyder, Mizzou, 126-91 after 7 seasons (four NCAA, two NIT)

Why should ISU fans expect any less from their program than these other fine universities did from their program?

Take a look at Quinn Snyder's record after 7 seasons. McDermott will have to go 68-24 over the next three seasons just to catch up to Quinn Snyder's record! And he was fired because it wasn't good enough!!! Crazy times!!!!!

So to the 9 that said he had to win the whole dang thing. You'd fire him if he made the Sweet 16 or Final Four???

# 3 Stop trying to put people in one of two categories.

I believe we don't have the money for a buy out. And even if we did this is Pollards decision to make. Me whining on a msg board or boycotting games wont' help. We could go winless next season with a packed Hilton every night and I know Pollard would still send Mac packing. He doesn't need me to stop buying tickets to see a success or failure.

I don't love the coach more than the program. I don't feel we hired Joe Loser off the street. We hired a wining bball coach and I want the pressure on him to produce. He knows how to do it and I want to see it.
