Sampson’s got to be pushing 70, right?

I checked his 63. He was hired at Oklahoma when we hired Floyd. He might have been a candidate for us then too.

Not many coaches haven’t been in the mix for our job since 1995.

Ummm yeah I thought they looked very solid with a bright future. Much more potential than Jeff Beverly. I think we all knew he had zero nba potential along with several other transfers Prohm has brought. Besides the point though I was just agreeing with several other posters that get tired of people acting like Fred completely screwed Iowa state and Prohm and left absolutely nothing behind.

Really? What was it about his game that stood out to you?

I am almost positive that before the Roland Rocket flew down to convince Floyd to take the ISU job that we were ready to hire Tom Asbury. The thought of that makes me sick.

Holy crap; the moron flips after doubling-down on his first opinion. Sometimes the coaching merry-go-round is entertaining and other times it's moronic ")

I wonder if someone from ISU told him this, after his story today.

So now that rules have changed he is on the straight and narrow? He wouldn't knowingly break rules and lie? Ok.
He gave an interview on Sirius radio a few months ago. The interview went from Sampson's past jobs from Oklahoma, to Indiana, to San Antonio Spurs assistant, to Rockets assistant, to Univ of Houston. The interviewer was joking about how basically Sampson got shafted as those phone calls he made at Indiana are legal now. Interviewer kept lingering on that topic. Sampson didn't take the bait and criticize the NCAA. He said he knew the rules and was in the wrong. He said he thought he wouldn't get another coaching job but Pop from the Spurs threw him a lifeline. He also elaborated on how he learned a lot more how to be a coach from Pop. Overall, he came across very humbled. I thought he was a slimeball when it all went down at Indiana but he doesn't appear that way now.

I don't think he leaves Houston. They just built the new stadium which he was very appreciative. Heck, they had to play the whole last season at Texas Southern's stadium in the hood while they built that thing.

He may not, but it's far from a sure bet. There's been plenty of scuttlebutt the last couple days.

Randy Peterson and a few other talking heads have taken guesses. It's literally based on nothing substantial.

Actually, he called and left an impassioned message on the Floyd’s answering machine.

Beverly played it for him, and they changed their minds after turning down the job a couple days earlier.
