Now that Joel is dead, I'm not sure what else there is that will keep me watching. I find Abby and the other girl really forced and annoying. Joel was the one character and actor I really liked. Will see I guess, but if the young girls are the main characters from here I can't see me watching much longer.
Im ok with whats left as long as they have good writing to finish it out in a short amount of time. If they find a way to drag it on, Ill be out.

Oh, they will drag it out. Especially if the lag to Season 3 is even half as long as from 1 to 2.

I'm still shellshocked by the loss of Joel. Episode 3 will be carrying quite a load.

Is anyone else troubled by the fact that the vast number of fungal invaders in 2-2 actually exceeded the 2005 population of the WHOLE STATE OF WYOMING!?!? In real life, there aren't ANY people out there. Seems really implausible.

Wyoming is 587,000 people. Jackson alone is 10,000. There were probably 1,000, maybe 2,000 zombies attacking tops. Seems plausible after several years of migration to have a horde that size (in make-believe land).

All zombie shows imo require suspension of disbelief for the number of zombies running around. It took 20 years for European settlers to reduce 8 million buffalo to less than 500 in the wild. At the rate people kill traditional zombies, humans should honestly be able to wipe them in 5-10 years time with coordinated effort.

The thing that gets me about shows like this, and I know that I'm supposed to suspend my disbelief... but when they flat out say that they have vets in the population, why do they always do such unmilitary things when it comes to their defense?

The only thing the zombies can do is melee combat. If your defense against that is fire, why are your walls made of wood??? Why are there no murder holes at ground level for the defenders to poke spears through? If you have flamethrowers, why are there no pillboxes to protect them? Why haven't their patrols tried to loot machine guns from nearby military installations? So many things in their defense just make zero sense.

I’m finding someone with a private island for my crew. It’d need to be big enough of an island to be self sustaining, but I think that’d be the best way to get through it rather than going full military complex.

I mean, for some of that its likely an issue of supplies.

Where are they getting materials for walls of materials other than wood, and what is the difficulty of acquisition? (wood is likely plentiful where they're at).

As for other military installations, its likely fedra combed over those earlier on, before most of their QZs also collapsed.

That construction meeting they have early in the episode definitely lets us know that their resources have already been stretched too thin. I also think it's heavily implied that they haven't seen hordes of this size before.

You need to suspend belief a bit but I don't think they did too bad of a job. More importantly IMO you need to set up a battle that can be easily followed by the audience, never losing your sense of place while at the same time conveying the total chaos that is happening.

Don’t run on the main streets, get to the side streets! Proceed to run into a dead end.

I think the focus-breaker for me is that there's still a ton of a new infected popping up everywhere 25+ years after the outbreak...where are they getting these fresh people from anymore? Human reproduction has basically screeched to a halt by this time, and during the entire past since the outbreak.

Then there's the whole zombie-like behavior and superhuman survival despite them not actually being that, they're just human bodies with a controlling fungus host. That alone wouldn't prevent the bodies from not observing human living conditions.

Then there's Jackson itself being a fully-functioning city with power generation and utilities and such, perfectly maintained with no materials or expertise shortages. And where are all of these compounds and groups producing more/getting 25+ years of guns and ammunition from? Gas, oil?

All part of the fantasy, of course, I'm just getting way too deep into it and nitpicking at this point. Totally excited for the remainder of the season, as a big fan of both games. We've got a long way to go after ep.2.

I hope you start out on the coast before it all goes to hell. Otherwise you gotta get through the slog first.

Ill give him the panic of trying to pull them away from his wife who was getting a bit overrun. But yes, the logic otherwise wasnt there.

Good point about Fedra. As for materials, earthworks are the oldest fortress materials and are freely available. I also think I saw tractors and bulldozers in the episode? Fuel would be a concern of course. Plenty of shovels though.

Yeah I lost a lot of interest now with what happened even though I already knew that was coming. But I’ll keep watching as it’s better than most anything else on tv.

I’m seeing a lot of people with your viewpoint. Did you watch GOT? Curious if you felt the same way when Ned Stark died?
I did watch GoT but Ned wasn’t anything like Joel in terms of likability for me. I’m gonna keep watching for sure but I don’t really care about many of the characters. That can change.
