I have a love hate relationship with this season. Some eps were great. The finale was meh. I didn’t get that noose scene at all. I was like wait that was so out of nowhere but oh well. I don’t know what happens in the games but having a backstory or season of Abby I’m kinda not into.

Honestly... the Abby part was the better part of the story. And I think Kaitlin Dever will likely be a better main character for her part than Bella Ramsey was for Ellie in season 2, where the tv show writers still seem to be writing her like she's a 14 year old (which lead to a bunch of other changes in S2 that were negative for the show).

But I don't know if they've set it all up well enough the way they kind of gutted the first act of the game in the show.

This season was up and down for me but I'm really optimistic about season 3. I think there is a lot to explore there, and Dever is a pretty good actress.

It's how I remember people reacting to the game too, and by the end of act 2 I think most were pretty positive on it.

The hard part for the show is that people aren't immediately thrust into it the way you were in the game.

A 2 year wait after only 7 episodes followed by a big perspective shift is a big ask for a lot of viewers.

Honestly, this is a big problem I have with a lot of shows right now. If you're going to have a continuing storyline, it's really hard to stay into it if you only have a relative handful of episodes with gaps of several months to several years in between. Even if you're releasing a new season every year, it's hard to remember what happened last season if it was only 6 or 8 episodes long. Several years between seasons? Forget about it. It's a big reason why I haven't watched Season 2 of Andor. I remember liking the first season when it was released a full three years ago, but I couldn't tell you what happened in it if my life depended on it. I'm not a big enough fan to watch it again before watching the second season, so I guess I'm not watching the second season.

This is my primary concern. Which is why I think it would have been better to interweave the POVs of Ellie and Abby in season 2.

I think most people will remember Abby before season 3. But no way will most viewers (myself included) remember all these ancillary characters around her. We met them for 5 minutes of screen time 2 years ago.

Just finished season 2. You would think after 5 years Ellie would lose the devil may care attitude but nope. So many bad decisions that the writers just pull out the trusty Deus Ex Machina to solve any problem.
It's obvious the WLF's are an actual army and yet 2 young women decide they can storm the castle, find one particular soldier and kill her. They saw where they killed about 20 of the Scars and didn't think that maybe this is a bad idea.
Then they hole up in a theater, find a generator and light it up without thinking one of the patrols might see an abandoned building with the lights on.

I was waiting for Ellie to fire up the amps in that theater and start shredding on the electric guitar but that never happened. So I guess that was one good decision amidst all the bad ones.

What a dumb season of a show. 0 stars. They would have been better off just making an original story inside the last of us setting, with a handful of easter eggs and references to the game.
