It is too bad fans are so jaded right now. I think this team is pleasantly surprising and I am enjoying it. I wish everyone would let down their guard a bit and let this team be good. But it is understandable given the last few years. People keep saying we need to win X game before they call us good and that this wasn't a real test. Creighton was a good team semi-away from Hilton.

However good doesn't mean great. We have a ways to go, but we are above average right now.

we're giving the b12 a bit too much credit at this point in the season. OU, TTech, CU, and Neb have looked pretty lousy. That's 6 games for us, 4 at home. OSU and Missouri also have played pretty average. Texas, despite beating IL and a close loss to Pitt, has VERY average guards - they play three guards who can't shoot!

We have the kind of team that is more than capable of an upset, since we have FIVE guys who can go for 20 pts (DG, SC, JVB, JA, or Ejim), and all five can knock down the three - that's a recipe for an upset.

We have a mentally tough team that knows they can win a tight game. That's going to come in handy at upset time.

These guys are hungry. They play that way and watching them, it looks that way. I spent a lot time watching White, Babb, Allen and Booker today too, and those guys might as well have been our biggest cheerleaders. It seems that the whole culture surrounding the program is entirely focused on winning. Everyone looks locked in on one thing and one thing only -winning.

Definitely a lot of confidence and good chemistry it appears as well.

Good point. Those guys set a great example out there.

Did you notice how fast they were on the court to celebrate the win with the team.

Instead of counting wins this year, I'm going to focus on the play of our newcomers. I'm going to look for signs of improvement and their coalescing together as a team instead of a group of individuals. The wins we get will be gravy for the seniors who can't say "wait 'til next year" anymore, but I'm not going to get depressed when we miss some opportunities down the stretch.

And our coaching? Until he proves me wrong, I'm going to assume that Coach Hoiberg is Angus MacGyver, John Wooden, Vince Lombardi AND Tom Izzo all rolled up in one package. Seriously though, I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the next couple years because of his talent and temperament combined with his love for ISU.

Just beat a team expected to make the big dance, and they shot lights out. Could be a much better season than expected if injuries stay away. Pass the koolaide, I'm all in for this season!

I agree with everything here except the first sentence. I was pretty skeptical of how we'd do seeing our first several games last year were we won purely on talent, and not teamwork. I felt there were some warning signs even in those wins. I'm seeing the complete opposite this year....but of course, we just don't have as much talent this year.

I'm not so sure we have less talent this year. We don't have the athleticism or potential we did last year, but they didn't put it together. Brackins ended up shooting 42% from the field -- that's horrible for a 6'-10" guy. Gilstrap only shot 43% from the field and didn't shoot free throws particularly well either. Dendy couldn't make a free throw. We didn't offensive rebound well, and we really didn't get to the line much or shoot free throws that well on the whole. I think we'll get more 2nd chances this year, and I also think we'll get to the line a bit more. We've got guys in JVB, Ejim, and SC who can really score points compared to the amount of shots they take. We'll take care of the ball relatively well, even if we play uptempo.

I actually think we'll be a bit better of offense this year, and we should be better defensively on the perimeter. Defense inside and defensive rebounding may be issues all year, and we're just an injury or two from being in serious trouble.

I think some of the comments about this being a guard oriented team make sense and do point towards winning more games this year.

Small ball is fun to watch, it's fluid and frantic. It looks like what basketball should look like. We'll definitely sneak up on some people...like KU at the Phog :)

We're going to struggle in Big 12 play...that hasn't changed.

What I do like is that all the newcomers experienced a pressure-packed, every possession counts type of game, and that can only help.

We'll win some we shouldn't, we'll lose some we shouldn't. Anything over a .500 finish will be a good finish for this team.

Don't forget how much our proclaimed best scout team in the nation is going to help them out too!

Keep in mind that Creighton really struggled against two teams that we beat really handily. Creighton is not as good of a team as some are making them seem. We should have won more handily than we did. Nonetheless, I am very happy with the win and am optimistic about the season.

People mentioning they shot the lights out obviously don't realize we shot even better. We're going to beat some teams because we'll shoot the 3 well to keep us in games, we're going to lose games because we struggle shooting. Nature of the beast.
