it is key. The biggest benefit of taking the PR hit and just hiring TJ now is he can start that process before some of the current players eyes start to wonder. Plus the Transfer market is in full force right now as teams season end.

I don’t know that by taking a week, you’d lose out on any transfers of note. How many transfers have announced where they are going so far?

little bit of column A and a little bit of column B.

I think a lot more would be happy with TJ if JP did a big search with interviews over 2-3 weeks. If it sounded like TJ was the best interview and really sold his view of Iowa State I think more would be happy with the hire. There would still be some that don't think he proved his chance to get the job though.

This quick turnaround hire just reeks of, I know better than everyone else I will hire my friend like I wanted to the first time around. I think that is what is upsetting the most like myself.

If TJ is the best for the job great, but why not give someone else an opportunity to make a case before giving it to him?

I guess my thought is that if TJ was likely the guy, a quick turnaround gives him a leg up in the transfer portal, both coming and going. This year will be more important than ever to maneuver that and a couple weeks may make a big difference.

Believe me. They will be.
What will have changed?

We discussed the merits of TJ yesterday. Assuming the right questions are asked, he’s a valid candidate. None of those merits justify not earnestly trying to get someone with less risk. Granted, after Jamie’s last poor MBB decision, the bar is so low that near .500 in the conference will have people bumping this.

You can get lucky with a naked option position, but that wouldn’t mean you want that person running your shop.

Watching the first half of UNLV vs Utah State in MW tourney. UNLV had no point guard (Grill was bringing the ball up). Tons of rotations and moving the ball, and found a lot of good looks.

UNLV averaged 10 made 3 pointers per game on the season.

They had a big guy in the middle that was a good shot blocker and rebounder. Lots of hustle and sharing of the ball so far. Nothing outstanding, but it was fun basketball to watch.

You are that confident he’s going to be super successful? What makes you think that? What evidence do you have?

I hope he’s successful. I have my doubts but I also realize I know nothing. You seem to think you know everything.

Yeah. You are way beyond “I have some doubts”. You are anti-TJ which is fine. But it will be remembered in a few years.

It's the guys on the roster and committed I'm concerned with right away. Keeping guys like Foster and Hunter will be critical to the immediate success of the next coach. And 2 weeks may make a difference there.

They will wait a week too.

The comparison isn’t TJ vs prohm. It’s TJ be the field.

He has strengths. I think those strengths are overstated. But, again, I don’t know him.

Honestly, it comes down to wanting some fresh blood around here.

Jamie said yesterday that basically it’s going to take a while to turn things around. So if that’s true what does TJ bring that someone else doesn’t.

We brought in a fresh face with Prohm. So bringing in a fresh face is not necessarily a good thing.

TJ likes to play an up tempo game like Hoiberg with spacing. Cyclone Fans love that style. TJ has recruited and signed some of Iowa State’s best ever players to come be Cyclones. So the recruiting aspect is one where TJ would have highest marks. So the belief is TJ will get players. Now it comes down to X’s and O’s. TJ had good players at SDSU. TJ also won at SDSU. Two Conference Tourney Championships. Two Regular Season Championships. Two NCAA bids. So TJ did get results. UNLV has been mixed results. First year resulted in the most Mountain West Conference Wins in 12 years. This year has been a struggle. UNLV has been inconsistent throughout and their early season struggles of a 1-6 start and TJ catching Covid19. The lone bright spot was the victory over Kansas State, in Manhattan.

I have faith that TJ will be able to recruit players. With the resources and contacts he has I have little doubt. I also trust that he will bring a great Staff. After that it all comes down to TJ. And the reports I have gotten from those who do know TJ is that he is very driven. Knows his weaknesses and tries to hire those who will strengthen those weaknesses. In the end it will all come down to whether TJ is successful. TJ is getting the opportunity. IMO he has earned that opportunity. But now he must prove that our faith and trust have been well placed. His success is in his hands.

I haven't read all 49 pages, but has anyone asked the real question yet?
"Is he bringing Caleb Grill back with him?"

I'm guessing you weren't in Jack Trice with 9,000 other fans watching us get pummeled in football over and over. The AD has made leaps and bounds since JP took over.
I was there early 90s.

Jamie looks a lot more like previous ADs without the huge growth in TV money, without coming after the success of Orr and McCarney, without the ISU base growing naturally as it went from Iowa State College to a university of 35k ,not to mention the population within a short drive.

We’ll be just fine without Jamie. And that day is fast approaching either way.
