Rashad Vaughn - Not going to ISU

I think we can get him. Obviously UNC has the upper hand, as they should, but I think CFH's name has been out there. Even Jay Williams (former DUke) during halftime of the Kansas game and I forget who else said "why WOULDN'T you want to play for Hoiberg? I would LOVE to play for him." Can't buy publicity like that, especially from a guy who played for Coach K and was the 2nd overall pick of the 2002 draft.

I do think UNC has the upper hand, but Rashad Vaughn is probably not oblivious to the fact that Hoiberg played for ten years in the NBA, was a great shooter (especially his last two years), was a scout in the NBA, and also in the front office and is personally friends with tons of players, GMs, and owners. To say the guy is well connected is an understatement. As well connected as Roy Williams might be, I would bet you anything Hoiberg is even more well connected in the NBA.

Not only that, but Hoiberg has shown we can compete, has a scorer's offense, and he can actually develop players and make them get better (see Garrett, Ejim, Lucious, Niang's shot, etc).

Not to mention he's essentially had three different offenses (or variations) built around the talent on the roster at the time.

I hope Vaughn looks at the Harrison Barnes situation and learns from it. HB bought into the UNC mystique thinking he would go there and be a superstar on a championship caliber team. Instead they tanked and despite being a good player, the fans blamed him for not being good enough to get them a championship all by himself. He eventually made it to the NBA but not with the accolades he expected.

You don't have to go to UNC to get to the NBA and lately, UNC hasn't had as much success as they are used to. You can go there and be just another guy, or come to ISU and be THE guy and build something special.

It seems like the media actually wants to cover the up and coming schools more now than showing the same old blue blood schools over and over. Everyone loves the new kid on the block lately, be it Butler or VCU or whoever. If Vaughn comes to ISU and combines with Morris and Thomas, ISU could be off the charts.

Don't forget about Niang. Think about the offensive firepower the Cyclones would have with those four players...add in a decent post player for a little defense and rebounding and that's one heck of a team.

Or Vaughn might consider that in two years of "tanking it" at UNC, they still made the Elite Eight both times. If that's tanking it, sign me up.

Deffinitely, I was just focusing on the back court.

Niang should be a rock solid upperclassmen by the time Vaughn gets here. His scoring ability inside will set up so many outside shots it will be scary.

Roy offerred Devin Booker. Another guy that can take Vaughn's scholarship if he were to commit. Not a huge deal but anything helps.

While I'm sure Ole Roy would love to have Devin Booker, this looks like pure strategy from him - wait until RV's visit, and then offer your 3rd option SG. Pressures on Vaughn.

Like the fact Coach Hoiberg and Abdelmassih are watching Vaughn right after the UNC visit. (and on the same day Roy offered Booker, as mentined, another top rated '14 SG.)

You know what must be awesome? Getting to work with a guy who played in the NBA for 10 years, was a talent scout/front office dude for 5 years, and is friends with tons of NBA guys/legends/GMs...who also lead the NBA in 3 point shooting percentage for a season.

I mean honestly..how cool must that be?

Another darkhorse in Vaughn's recruitment is Iowa State, which has recruited the shooting guard for a few years. Head coach Fred Hoiberg has plenty of ties to the area, having played for the Minnesota Timberwolves and then working in their front office.
Vaughn has been to the Ames campus on several occasions.
“I like coach Fred Hoiberg,â€￾ Vaughn said. “He's a great guy, I've got a good relationship with him. Just Iowa State, period. You know, the fans and everything. It's a good atmosphere down there.â€￾


Uh, Love it! - Would be great to see this kid in Cardinal and Gold and get ISU past KU for years to come!

GO CYCLONES! The un-suspected "true rivalry" with the Parrots.
