Pretty hard to get a 12 on your ACT.

To be fair... let's ask Derek Rose about that as he managed to bomb his ACT's 3 times before having another person take the SAT exam for him so he could get into Memphis.

I am sure UNLV has refined their process because they have invested so much ($$$$) into this recruiting class that they can't be allowed to fail. What are they going to do... ask these recruits for the money back?

Last Post for me on Mega Thread: I foolishly watched his announcement yesterday, knowing that he was going to UNLV. I hope his decision turns out to be a good one for him. When he was talking about why he chose UNLV (relationship, style of play, etc), it was frustrating because if he was sincere about those reasons, ISU, and probably even other schools are clearly a better fit. That's not just my bias opinion, but one that is shared consistently by announcers and other coaches. Fred's system suits a player like Vaughn perfectly. Anyways, I hope he's happy with his decision in a year, but I feel very sorry for him. CloneZone13, Out!

Still think this decision go to unlv is that kaffey character is involved somehow, there was article in the star tribune that he had a criminal record and if so how in the world did he get a job to coach a prep school basketball team as an assistant?

I actually think a criminal record is a prerequisite to coaching prep school basketball. You put in on your resume and everything.

It is not like this prep school is actually a school.

Ames needs to start a prep school of 12 people that play basketball all over the nation. Maybe donors of the SEZ project can start it. Obviously nothing sketchy about that...

My last post here in the good times that were the megathread. I am not surprised by the UNLV decision. It made logical sense. I wouldn't have been shocked if he went to any other school on his list. I am relieved he didn't go to KU so we wouldn't have to see him multiple times a year. He strongly considered ISU and that is all you can ask for from a kid with that level of talent. I feel bad for the staff having invested so much time into him, but I am happy this whole thing is over.

With some of the "interesting" aspects surrounding the people around RV, I realized yesterday how thankful I am to a kid like Lazard. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved RV in cardinal and gold, but it didn't work out that way. In this day in age with kids that say one thing and do another, it is a breath of fresh air to see a kid like Lazard be true to himself/his word. With RV going to UNLV, I understood a little more why Paul Rhoads said what he said at the signing day press conference. I didn't agree with it at the time, but I identified with it more yesterday with the RV to UNLV announcement. Was it excitement or relief that drove him to make the comments toward Notre Dame/Iowa? I would imagine some combination of both.

Goodbye megathread...may you rest in peace.

Are people really mad about where an 18 year old kid decided HE felt was best for his college career? I mean sure, I don't know why you'd want to go to UNLV over UNC, Kentucky, KU or Iowa State but its pretty clear he wants to be the big man on campus and he wouldn't have that at UNC, Kentucky, or KU. Maybe he fell in love with Las Vegas and feels comfortable there? Also, when you made your college choice did all of you stick around close to home? I know a lot of college kids want to get away and experience something new. Anyways, good for you RV. I hope you have a nice year at UNLV!

It may not be as simple as that.

As long as the donors would be willing to pay $17,000/student tuition, buy a 5 bedroom $450,000 dollar house for them to live in, provide for all of their daily living expenses, provide a gym for them to practice in , pay all of their expenses to travel around the country to play in tournaments and hire their friend/mentor as a coach, then I can't see how that would in any way influence where these students decide to play college basketball for 1 year.

Note: the $17,000 tuition was paid to Henderson International which no longer exists as a high school. Now they just hire private tutors for their 11 person "school".

Re: Rashad Vaughn

I don't understand how Rashad can watch Dave Rice attempt to coach and want to play for him. It just doesn't make any sense to me.

Vaughn either got money or a No Show Job, either way its hello Las Vegas for one year and onto the nba...

Lets concentrate on the players Who WANT TO PLAY @ IOWA STATE & forget about Vaughn.

I think that RV is afraid of real school. That is why he is in a prep school non-school and that is probably why he is going to UNLV. He values education less than he values good competition..which he also doesn't apparently value. Last post from me: You stay classy, megathread.

How do any of you know if this kid is a sure fire NBA player? The list of sure fire NBA players that end up being flops is long and well documented. The same thing goes for high school kids that are sure fire all Americans going into college, and never live up to expectations. He might end up being "all world" or he might never live up to all the hype. Crap shoot.

I thought the NCAA was going to start cracking down on Prep Schools like this. I guess it is the NCAA.

Is ABCD Prep (in Urbandale) close enough? Although I've read that it is kind of sketchy (more so than others? That I'm not sure)

Oh they're going to crack down all right. First step in this crackdown is to make sure that Jameel McKay isn't granted a waiver to play for us in the 1st semester of next season.

Is that million dollar house in West Ames still for sale? If so, it would be the perfect house to get this started. It is also very close to the basketball complex.
