I will say the biggest thing that Hoiberg needs to concentrate on in recruiting isn't a SG like Vaughn, it is getting some legitimate size who can play. Right now you have a team of 6'2-6'7 versatile and mostly energetic players who can spread the floor.

The reason why you are so mediocre to bad on the road is lack of size. It is holding you back from taking the next step because jump shots don't fall on the road like they do at home and other teams just pound you inside and on the glass. It is also the reason you are so poor on defense.

Hoiberg needs to grab 3 or 4 guys who are in the 6'10'' range with athleticism and size who can bang inside and he needs them now. The tough part is that he will need to get them from the High School level and develop them, and to this point he hasn't shown the willingness or ability to develop bigger post players. Gibson has some talent, but he hasn't gotten any better since he stepped on campus and might have gotten worse. I think some of that is Hoiberg's system and lack of patience with big men.
Fred has been trying to get this since Calvin Godfrey was kicked off the team. We would have had one this year in Amardi, but we basically cut him in favor of Kane. We have offered the Godfrey type the last couple years and seem to miss out on them a lot. We finally got one in McKay, who is basically Fred's dream big.

This was something I believe started due to a bit on Conan's old late show. You could purchase them but they would have no monetary value. Bought one for gags but lost it.

Who is denying this? I'm not saying that Texas fans wanted to keep Barnes, but someone asked to compare programs.

I thought they should have cut ties, but they didn't and now he has turned it right back around. Not going to complain about it.

Texas has had a good bb program under Barnes, but one thing it appears Texas will never have is a good bb fan base. They have a terrible bb culture. Despite being good, and having a huge student population as well as a large general population in the Austin area, they can't sell their arena. Pathetic and terrible attendance in relation to wins and population.

This attendance crap is really annoying. Fans from other schools (Texas, Baylor, OSU) come here and want to talk basketball and all some of you can bring up is attendance. Who gives an eff?

I agree with you on most of this, and you seem to be agreeing with what my point was. Someone made a silly and clearly incorrect comment that Iowa State is currently "as strong as it ever was" and that simply isn't close to true.

This of course doesn't mean in any way it isn't a good program or a growing program, but this is a message board and not many people can discuss simple things like this without going off the deep end.

You also seem to agree that a much better description of Iowa State right now is they are becoming more consistent in making the tourney than before. I agree with that, but it certainly isn't as strong as it has ever been, but has the chance to get there.

I'll give you the 1999-2000 season, that was special. But the 2000-2001, which did result in a Big 12 title, was a train wreck to close the year with a first game loss in the Big 12 tournament and an upset by Hampton. The program was on such solid ground that the next year we went 10-18 (3-12). And then followed it up with a 17-14 (5-11) season.

I would definitely say the program has a better foundation now than it has in a long, long time. We haven't seen some of the individual event successes but its just a matter of time.

Are people really mad about where an 18 year old kid decided HE felt was best for his college career? I mean sure, I don't know why you'd want to go to UNLV over UNC, Kentucky, KU or Iowa State but its pretty clear he wants to be the big man on campus and he wouldn't have that at UNC, Kentucky, or KU. Maybe he fell in love with Las Vegas and feels comfortable there? Also, when you made your college choice did all of you stick around close to home? I know a lot of college kids want to get away and experience something new. Anyways, good for you RV. I hope you have a nice year at UNLV!

thats not my point. It is just stupid to make you're avatar an uncommitted recruit or even a committed recruit who hasn't even played a minute for you're team. If he achieves all conference/all american status than it isn't as pathetic but until then back off.

Just out of curiosity, why does it matter? Is anything gained or lost by having an RV avatar prior to his commitment? It was fun to do, now it's over, what's the big deal? You must care a lot about what anonymous Internet posters think about you. I on the other hand do not.

Yeah, I went to bed at the beginning of San Diego State's game last night. Time zone doesn't work for most people of central time and east.
