Names were leaked out in 2006 when Chizik was hired and there were names leaked in 2008-2009 when Rhoads was hired. Rhoads was the best candidate interviewed IMO. Can't recall the others right now, but they were not real impressive. Nothing like the candidates we had in 2006.

Not real impressed with the Kansas Football Coach and candidates. IMO, I thought Nebraska would do better as well.

Oh my. CPR is better than Gary Patterson? Phillip Fulmer? You are really showing your ignorance.

Stormin has to either be best friends with Paul Rhoads or is Paul Rhoads, this guy/girl thinks Paul Rhoads is some Nick Saban or something. There is not a P5 school that would even consider giving him another year if he was their coach, nor would he be hired as a head coach if he was fired from Iowa State.

From your article:

Keep in mind — it’s all just speculation and guessing for now.

Gary Patterson never sought the Iowa State job. That Iowa State Daily said Iowa State had interest in him. Phil Fulmer has not gotten a Head Coaching job since he was forced to step down from Tennessee. Fulmer wanted the Louisville job and also the Connecticut job and got neither.

Not sure if Mike Stoops was interested, even though the Daily article says we seemed to have interest in him.

Like I said, I don't think any of those guys interviewed. Patterson and Stoops likely weren't interested and wanted to remain at their jobs. And Fulmer was not asked to interview IIRC.

IF Gary Patterson had been interested and wanted the ISU job, I bet he would have been our Head Coach. It was not an option.

Do you think Paul Rhoads would be hired as a head coach anywhere right now?

I really don't know. Mike Riley was hired by Nebraska. I thought that was pretty surprising.

Look at who the Kansas Head Coaching Job interviewed. We would probably attract similar candidates.

I think we are in a much better spot than Kansas. Our AD shows more commitment to coaches (to a fault), we have better brand new facilities with the weight room and the SEZ, and we have 10x the fan support.

Of course we would have a better pool than KU. They centered their search on coaches who worked under Mangino - Ed Warinner, Tim Beck, interim coach Bowen - before hiring David Beaty, who also coached there under Mangino.
And yes, our fan support makes us much more attractive than KU.

Lots of similarities. The bigger fish out there are willing to wait for the blueblood programs rather than risk going to a possible coaching graveyard.

IMO, we were actually in a better position when McCarney left, at the time Chizik was hired. We played in a weak Big 12 North Division, had 4 non-conference games, and McCarney had recent success. Chizik bombed at ISU. CPR started great but has now struggled. And is on the hot seat. We play in the Big 12. Only 3 non-conference games. Tough area to recruit to. Not many Division I players in the state. And there are 2 BCS schools along with an FCS power in the state. Lots of challenges. And a fanbase that does not think 6 or 7 wins is even good enough anymore. Plus the pay is the lowest in the Big 12.

If we were getting 6 or 7 wins, this discussion wouldn't be taking place. But 2 or 3 wins is definitely not good enough.

This is a fantasy.

The last time ISU won 6 games, fans were happy with Rhoads.

He then proceeded to win less than six games over the next two seasons combined.

If Rhoads even went 6-7 again this year, like he did in 2011 and 2012, I can guarantee that the majority of the fanbase would be supportive of him and looking forward to the 2015 season.

If we won 6-7, we would be the giddiest fanbase around. There might be 1-2 complaints for the year, but that's it.
6-7 is all anyone really expects. It shouldn't be that hard to achieve.

So all you guys that are set on firing CPR, this team was very close to having 5 wins and probably should have. A 5 win season would of kept a lot of these topics out of this message board.

Doesn't this make it worse that they ended 2-10? I'd give more leeway to a 2-win coach with 2-win players over a 2-win coach with 5-win players.

Basically means there's a lack of execution.

You are what your record says you are. The whole shoulda coulda woulda thing is worn out. Call it like you see it. The Iowa basketball team is bad. The Iowa football team is mediocre. The Iowa State Basketball team is very good, and possibly elite. The Iowa State football team is atrocious.

Two horrible seasons in a row should be enough for anyone to get the excuse making reaction out of their system.

I'll have to check my pulse, but I actually got through a Stormin post agreeing with almost everything he had to say! Too bad he had to include the 6 or 7 win comment. I can't agree with that.
