Watching Star Wars on Spike right now and need others opinion. Who else thinks that Jar Jar Binks is completely unnecessary? I can't believe Lucas allowed "him" to be in the movie. It is an extreme character, who in my opinion, tries to add humor... when humor is not needed. Am I alone here?

i would assume he was trying to reach another younger generation. He already had the 25-40 year olds hooked, needed to reach the next generation of kids.

Not a star wars geek, but the way they were made, the prequels were all unnecessary. Maybe never in the history of movies has something had so much potential and not even come close. Basically, Lucas made a big screen video game. If JarJar is the only thing that disturbs you about these movies then consider yourself lucky. If nothing else, I love to now point out who is the jar jar and any tv show or movie I see. There usually is one character who is totally unnecessary to the story who ends up detracting from the show rather than helping.

jar jar binks destroyed Star Wars. Phantom Menace was complete garbage. If I met George Lucas, I would punch him in the face for whoring Star Wars out the way he has. The only decent thing he has done for years was Revenge of the Sith...

you're giving him WAY to much credit on Revenge of the Sith. It had its moments but it was still a horrible movie.

It was the best of the 3, by far. Not as good as Empire, but when you compare it Phantom Menace, it was Oscar worthy.

what gets me about revenge of the sith is the fight between obi wan and anakin/vader when obi tells anakin that he couldnt make a move because he had the high ground. yet, in the phantom menace, obi wan was in the exact same situation with darth maul, and he ended up making the same move, but cutting darth maul in half. bah, i thought that was really poor, not to mention the whole fight between obi wan and anakin in revenge of the sith. the fight between darth maul and qui gon was much, much better.

He is my 5 year olds favorite character, so it did what was intended.

i really do not like the lightsaber fights in episodes 1-3, to me they seemed to new aged and way to many fancy spins and moves.

My favorite lightsaber fight had to be the the one in the end of the Empire Strikes Back. I loved how it was just Luke and Vader. The final Lightsaber fight in Return of the Jedi was a great one as well

Yeah, Lucas does some silly things at times. Introduces two characters: Darth Maul, one of the most unique and interesting villains in quite a while, and Jar Jar Binks, a silly floppy eared moron. Who does Lucas give way more screen time to? You guessed it: Jar Jar. Brilliant.

That said, Ep. 1 was not very good, Ep. 2 was ok, Ep. 3 was pretty good outside of Amidala's constant whining.
