I don’t think this really helps us but very glad to see BYU go down.
Of course it helps us. They play @ ASU next week, which could also be a loss. ASU is playing really well. If we win out and ASU wins out and CU loses @ KU next week, then Champ Game would be ASU vs ISU. If BYU beats ASU and wins the next one, and CU loses one (probably @ KU) and ISU wins out: then it's BYU vs ISU in the Champ Game.

Everyone in this thread who thinks we have no chance at the Champ Game hasn't run through all the tie breakers. Chaos doesn't need to happen. We obviously don't control our own destiny, but KU beating CU is likely. In fact KU probably will be favored by Vegas in that game. They were a +2.5 underdog in the BYU game. KU's playing really well right now.

Y'all are acting like Iowa State was terrible in all aspects of the game. Cincy came into the game 3-3 in conference. We held them 80 yards below their average, 10 points below their average.

Our offense underformed compared to our average total yards, but we came in right at their average given up. And we scored more than our average points and well more than their average points allowed.

The other team on the field affects how you play.

Yeah,.I'm with ya. Enough of our fans are from a couple hours away....can't expect them to be at them all or buy single game tickets for a colder, night game (and let's be honest, last couple games shakey) and expect to either spend big bucks for a hotel or get home in the middle of the night
So other fan bases are closer to the university they support, or can afford to purchase a hotel room after the game? Totally disagree, we have a small but passionate fan base, that has grown some over the years but still has a long way to grow to catch the neighboring schools. ISU had the 80's and 90" where we did not make many fans because of poor play on the field. That generation of fans are in the 50's now. Few that did not attend ISU became Cyclone fans out of the generation, most cheer for EIU or say they support both schools but wear EIU gear.

Keep winning for another 10/20 years and we will build up the fan base or go on a run of multiple playoff teams over a 5/10 span. Winning builds fans, and ISU in the past has not done a lot of that.

I’m not sure anyone is saying we don’t have any chance.

What they’re daying is that they aren’t going to count on someone else losing. There’s a difference.

That how I see it. Of course, I didn’t see BYU losing to KU, either. Who knows what’ll happen the last two weeks?

Not meaning to get into an argument or disagreement.

Just think the variables have also changed (access to HD broadcasts vs spending for tickets and all that goes with it), we have a large stadium, etc.

The passionate fans that were filling our small stadium 15 years ago when we were not great are probably still coming ..but now we have more seats for say the casual fans that may be the empty ones.

Also, for the record, I don't love "who is the better fan" type of arguments as they are so subjective with too many variables.

Looking at the highlights, I realized something unusual. Every single touchdown, the runner went into the end zone upright—and stayed that way.

How often does that happen?

I guess we'll see. But I really like KU to win this one. I hate having to root for the Jayhawks, but we need them to come through for us.

Iowa has a larger stadium then ours, not a lot but bigger, and they sold out for the season before it started. If they can do it, why are we not? they have HD TV's over east. You are trying to hard it, we need to win more to build the fan base. People will come and spend their hard earned money if you put a decent product on the field, ISU has not done another of that over time. Win and people will come. This year could have been a break through season, and may still be, but until we have a few back to back, we will struggle selling out each game.

Is this really a question?

There's a lot more iowa fans, for one. We've evened that up in the DSM area over time, but statewide its still much more Iowa.

Iowa has also had 10 win seasons 3 of the prior 5 years. And no less than 8 wins since the 2015 season (covid year aside, which was a 6-2 season without noncon games so similar to an 8-9 win season). Yeah, they benefitted a ton from the big 10 west, but wins are still enjoyable as fans.

Also, ticket sales aren't really built in a season. They're in large part built over time by increased season ticket sales and people holding on to those for many years, even decades. What's helped Iowa is they haven't really had bad stretches the way we have, and those are where season ticket holders start to give up their tickets. When they've had only one losing season (2014) since 2000, and plenty of good years sprinked between, they've likely had a lot fewer people drop off between any given year.

I was stuck with Varsity network due to work. I gather that "Dominant" Orange was pretty damn Manly. If I recall right(?) 3 plays in a row where he kicked ass.
Ps. Hard to tell on radio, but Trice seemed kinda quiet?

Testifying
It's still funny that the usuals that say "we're gonna lose/that's game" never want to admit they're wrong. Hell, some won't even congratulate the team on a win.
I don't know why it's difficult to just watch a game without saying that when it's like the second qtr and it's a one score game.

Kind of a sad reality but it will still repeat itself after they've been wrong with those takes maybe 5 or 6 times this year alone.

Trying to understand the tiebreakers gives me a headache.
Determining CCG participants in the old days: Win more games than the rest of the teams in your division

Determining CCG participants in the age of 16/18 team conferences: Who has the best record? Did they play each other? What’s their record against common opponents? Where do they stand in the Higgs-Boson-Capillary rating system? How many team members can balance on one foot while singing the school fight song? Who’s better at calling a coin flip?
