I thought the Tamin one specifically was a foul. I don't recall the other 2 you are referring to.

That is what creates the cylinder foul. If the defender is in the cylinder, he is not in a legal guarding position, so any illegal contact should be a defensive foul.

I agree completely. Though, AI is still a long way off, and even when it is viable, will still be years away from implementation due to the pushback it will receive.

then there should never be a charge call ever since a defender can't (in your words) be in legal guarding position and be in the cylinder.

Can you explain how you think the two clips provided a few minutes ago was Cryer having "Cylinder?" I'd like to see a top down on that. But, what that looked like to me on the swipe was Heise off Cryers right shoulder. Maybe crowding, but also maybe occupying the space outside of his shoulder as well AFTER Cryer had quickly moved into Heises' space. (Maybe Defenders do not have the right to any space on the floor? Is that the deal?) Hard to tell.

The definition of the cylinder that I could find is this:

Boundaries of the cylinder
  • Front: The player's feet, bent knees, and arms

  • Rear: The player's buttocks

  • Sides: The outer edge of the player's elbows and legs

  • Height: Extends from the floor to as far above the player as they can jump or extend their arms and body

I felt like Heise had established his positon, Cryer moved into it and then made a move from there. Heise had legal positon, Cryer moved into his space and does not carry his cylinder into that position. This is my non-professional interpretation of the rule that you pointed out. Does the Cylinder move from that initial position and does the Defender have a right to the spot they have established? Woudl I be correct to say the only way that heise could actually legally defend Cryer is to back off after he pivots into him? Becuase that does not sound like the rule I just read. AND sounds just stupid.

AND you can not tell me that Cryer did not purposefully put himself in position and purposefully move to hit Heise. Watching that back seveal times, it is pretty obvious. Heise was bothering him and he didn't like it and got lucky taking advantage of a rule. I'd say anytime you are pissed off at a guy, you should be able to crouch down into the defenders space and come up through his body and face with both hands and elbows as hard as you can throwing them to the ground. It would be, in the cylinder after all.

We need to teach this technique to at least Jefferson and Chat and have them execute it in the first 2 minutes of every game. That should keep a few people off of them. Maybe just knock some people out of the game. That seems to be in the rules.
You are right, that is exactly why you can't call that a defensive foul. Guys in the post would getting hurt by elbows if the offense could swing without being penalized

AllInforContrarianism thinks the fact that Heise moved his feet slightly and backed up is why it's a foul, he thinks defensive players are not allowed to move their feet at all, even to get out of the way of an incoming haymaker to the jaw.

If you’re going to act tough to call me out, I hope you’re tough enough to not have me blocked.

Is allowed to bring up anything not related to the cylinder call?

If so, 2nd half Milan is the Milan we need for rest of the season to reach our goals. That was the Milan TJ said they needed to “hunt” shots. Even when his shots weren’t falling he kept hunting and kept shooting.

That was most aggressive I have seen him play in his career.

Yes! That look in his eye, that was impressive. He cannot be guarded by a guard when he's in that mode.

And Chatfield had some great plays, plays I wasn't sure he had in the bag.

Or be impressed with our guy's effort. I never understand downgrading how good an opponent that just beat us is. Houston is a true Final Four contender. We are just as good or better. Time will tell.
I said what I said. Zero doubt we beat them today with our regular starters. Hope we face them in the B12 tournament and hang another embarrassing loss on them.

At times this year we have been a bit too dependent on Keshon or Curtis making something happen. Hopefully this gets Heise and Milan rolling and we can elevate our entire offense by being more balanced

That came to mind, mainly applying to Heise, a lot of the season he could "defer" sometimes (on offense), this situation he was forced into a more prominent role.

Obviously at full-strength, he won't have to do as much, but it gave a chance to show he CAN do it when needed.

Houston might have come out with a litle more fire. Imagine if they didn't have their top 2 guys and we had them at home full force. We migh tnot play to the top of our game either. Even through Cryer went crazy, they really only had 2 guys show up to do anything. It looked like they thought it would be a walk and maybe didn't turn it on for the second half. Then, they had to have those same two guys pull it out for them when they realized they could lose and couldn't rev the engine.

I too believe we get them on a neutral court, we get them. But, that may not be the same team we saw today that we do beat if you know what I mean.

Aside from getting himself shots that also got some fouls on Houston which is big in tight games.

And if Cujo and Gilbert get into full mode that only helps spread things out.

Agree.

Reiterate what I shared earlier. Them having a couple guys that can win them games (when maybe not everyone as a whole is having a great game) is a feature, not a bug. They are a damn good team, and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see them get to San Antonio. You have to tip your cap to them, coming into the Big 12 and winning the regular season title two years in a row is pretty incredible. They are the class of the league. And to our credit, we’re right there.

I don't think that should have been a flagarent foul as didn't seem like a non basketball play but it's still a foul on off player. The reversal was crazy.

ISU played a great second half, no shame in falling short without full squad. Great to see Mom come alive second half, Jeffersons passing, Heise aggressiveness.

First half Watson drove and turned it over like 2 or 3 times and just not enough play makers against a swarming defense.

If Houston didn't make so many tough shots they were in danger
You see a blow to the head be upgraded all the time, it was a text book example of a player swinging his arms and coming into contact with the head of another player. It should have been upgraded to a flagrant 1. Either follow the rule or get rid of it.

On that foul it looked like he literally pivoted into Heise and jacked him in the jaw. Not sure how that’s a cylinder violation. Extra crazy since they changed the initial call.
Honestly as bad of a call as you will see in a game, at a crucial time. What really makes it bad is they reviewed it and changed the foul from the offensive player to the defender who didn’t even move. Just pathetic and a call that should be brought to the attention of whoever these officials report too.

Yep. You articulated it better than i did but he had a look, a walk, a swagger that has not been seen so far.
