Rewatched the game yesterday morning, was just as good as live. Maybe better as I could listen to Fran - live I had 5 kids age 3-7 playing basketball/soccer in the living room.

Tamin is so good at forcing TO's in the middle third of the court. Loved the one people may not remember where he came up quick on a guy before he crossed half and surprised him, causing the guy to lose it OOB.

KG could not get a foul call on a drive to save his life but Tamin got them regularly. I'm wondering if refs just think KG flailing on all those, maybe overselling contact.

Houston had a physical hand on whoever had the ball when we were on offense. Freedom of movement was dead. Ball movement was great to overcome it.

Coming out 2-3 zone with just over a minute left was a nice switch up, we kind of fell back into man after a bit but confused and slowed down Houston. They ended up making the basket for the tie, but it made for less possessions which probably favored us at that point.
Tamin makes several plays a game that are just psychic levels of anticipation. It's like he instantly analyzes any given scenario and knows where the ball or player might go before the player does.

Watching a replay this morning (slow day at work) and we definitely made an improvement on moving the ball better compared to the OU game. Room for improvement for sure still (e.g. Tamin dribbled into the same trap numerous times) but it looks like it was definitely a point of emphasis. You can also hear TJ yelling about it all game long ("MOVE IT MOVE IT MOVE IT").

Yeah, wherever the ball was, there was always a two man rotation going between the ball handler and one other guy, and that other guy seemed to space according to the defense so that he was always available as the trap came. I think that helped to negate some of the trapping that Houston likes to do.

Son had surgery in December. The day after the surgery a comfort dog came into the hospital visiting patients. It apparently comes every Friday. It was a great dane which works out really well since it is tall enough to visit patients who are even flat on their backs on hospital beds. My daughter was so upset she missed him since she had left about 15 minutes before the dog arrived.
Great Dane, great dog!

Right now, 11 of our 14 teams have a record of 11-3 or better. I can't imagine this isn't the most difficult conference, ever. I know that's subjective and no way to "prove", but, just, .....Wow!
Update: After last night, we now have 11 teams with 12-3 record or better! SEC and the B1G both have just 6 teams. Not even close!

Respectfully, I do not believe it is. I think we are actually just as 'bad' of a 3-point shooting team as any of TJ's teams.

Thus far this year against 'high major' teams, we're 35 - 120 for 29% - with the 2 "best" shooting nights being DePaul and Iowa. In 2 Big 12 games, we're 6 - 31.

The numbers against bad competition have REALLY skewed the metrics; against "decent" to good (to great) defenses, our offense simply has not run smoothly or consistently, thus far this year.
What are the numbers from last year taking away the bad teams?

You are discounting stats rung up this year based on bad teams played but including them for the other years.

Our worst offensive output was against the #1 defense in America and we won. Against OU (#15 defense) Tamin going 1-10 from the floor and 0-4 from three killed us.

The natural flow of our offense is simply night and day better than it was last year and even two years ago. That comes from us having guys that can actually dribble, get into the lane and kick it to an open guy. Jones and Pav hitting 1-2 threes a game combined will be huge going forward and Tre seems to be getting into a bit of a groove from beyond the arc which will also help us. But as far as quality of shots go, yeah we're getting much better looks than previous years.

This is insane. We're not going to play a lot of games against the best defense in CBB. in fact, i think we only have to do that one more time
No what is insane is people that think we can continue to play with the defensive intensity we played with the other night, hit 3/15 from 3 point land and still come out with a victory. Then throw in the fact that half those games will be on the road.

The victory against Houston was great, we were also at home, playing the number 2 team in the nation, on national TV and our kids were up for the game. No team can continue getting up game after game, KU proved that the next night losing their first conference game.

It's not all in a vacuum though. There are going to be games where we don't play as well defensively, play a worse team, shoot like that and lose. And there will also be games where we play decent defensively, shoot the lights out and kick the crap out of a good team. CBB is a roller coaster for nearly every single team in America.

Watch the first two minutes here with Sampson postgame. I realize his team just lost a tough close game and he's disappointed but wow what an ass****:

And for the other end of the spectrum, here's Self after his team lost on the road to the team picked to finish last in the league (he's very complementary of UCF):

Is your point that we might lose again?

Not at all, my point is that we are not going to continue to win games against the top teams in the league shooting 3/35 from beyond the arc, no matter what happened against Houston.

Never would have guessed . . . . he is 68.
He's probably pretty pleased he's made full circle. Although he certainly doesn't show it.

I hope his son has the same anti-charm vibe. He would really have to be taking lessons to be as bad as Dad.
