I bet our 2017 commits Rae Johnson and Kristen Scott are going to hear the negative recruiting pitch a LOT this summer. Early letter of intent dates is November 9. This year’s class was a hail Mary pass after they missed on all of their preferred targets. These two gals have been committed for a long time(as sophomores) and challenge might be to hold on to them.

The sooner this lawsuit is resolved the better. Without reading back through hundreds of posts, was there any speculation on time frame for all of this?

12-18 Months to get to trial is what has been reported in several places. Some had quotes from the law firm that this would be the timetable!! Not the best news for recruiting to be sure!!

Pretty sure there was an article in the Ames Tribune that Nikki was taking online courses her final semester and went home to Texas after the season was over.

Also, Brynn graduated at semester, so why would she stick around once the season was over? The only player still physically on campus was Fallon.

Yes she moved home after being banned from Suckup to train, according to her interview.

If BF had a written policy of who gets access and why, that would be good. If it was simply coach's discetion, then there is more pressure on him to demonstrate justification.

It's somewhat coincidental that all previous WNBA candidates were white. It seems far-fetched to extrapolate that she was denied access because she's black. There are some things that presumably are privileges earned through being a good citizen in the program, not rights by simply being in the program or being talented. Using facilities after the season has ended seems more of a privilege. She was not a Senior CLASS Award candidate, like several of the talented seniors. That is a distinction of character plus talent. If you browse photos of the team participating in community service activities, she was often not involved (or often enough that her absence was noticeable). Yet other black players have been actively involved in these activities.

Denial of resources is factual and is'very central to discrimination cases, he said she said is not. And my point was that if he has a written policy and followed that to the letter, then no worries.

I'm not debating her behavior or guess it because all we have to go on is hearsay.

This practice facility access is another interesting thing. It seems that there should be some kind of objective policy or criteria for access in place that applied equally to both men and women to avoid sexual discrimination issues.

According to the article she "didn't feel welcome" that is different than being banned.

The senior, who was named All-American honorable mention, didn’t feel welcome at the practice facility anymore. The program’s all-time assist leader said she no longer even had a locker like previous WNBA draft prospects did for a month or two after the season, so the player who butted heads with coach Bill Fennelly for four years packed her belongings and headed south.

Obviously what she's willing to say to the Press at the time and what she said in the lawsuit are two different things. I'd say having all your stuff put in trash bags it's pretty clear message

We could be screwed then coming on the heels of next years class that isn't highly regarded at all. The previous two were somewhat trumpeted by impartial observers, this year not at all and now bad press hanging for a year or more. Someone might be inheriting a rebuilding project in a couple of years.

I agree this is going to hurt recruiting bad and even if BF/ISU win, it will still be "used" by other coaches to hunt us on the recruiting trail for years to come. I really don't see a way BF survives this

I think it will just be sad if the even have to testify. The judge should throw it out, but he will "err on the side of caution" to help his buddies make some money.

I don't think you understand how this works. If judges threw out every case before hearing any testimony, there would be no justice.

Edit: 24 pages, so far, not 48.

Please the amount of material out there for opposing coaches to use against Bill fennelly is a mile long including video and most of these recruits have attended games and practices and have heard and seen him so I don't really see this doing more damage than he already does to himself

Believe me, I fully know how it works. Judges don't have to throw out all cases. But they keep a lot more than necessary. With less cases there would be less need for so many lawyers and judges.

For some reason, it didn't occur to me until this morning to question the thread title. Shouldn't it read alleged racial discrimination?

I'd say the article would be admissible as defense of Fennelly

You may be right. There is plenty of stuff out there on BF for other coaches to use. I just feel like this is "fresh meat" for them. How long it stays "fresh" is the question. It's all about how the recruit views BF and the program IMHO Some will drop us like a hot potato and others wont. I still think it has some affect. How long? Who knows

Sorry to make everyone hungry with all the food references :)
